RUN.. When he starts to spin. run out off his range and keep running
Either way, slide attack and then dodge back is the way to go. Like so:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUV4KIxB4MI
In stage 2, do exactly the same as above except ignore damaging arms and go right for the control point "brain" in the center. Let it do a single arm spin attack, evade out, then run back in and hit the control point a few times then dodge to stop it squishing you with its drop attack.
Rinse repeat.
Its actually one of the easier bosses once you get the pattern, as its extremely predictable. Essentially your combat pattern should be; Move close, dodge away, dodge towards, attack, attack, dodge away.
The first stage's spin attack is short-lived, just back off the moment all it's legs lift off the ground, and it should end quick enough. Stage two's spin is a very long chase, you're better off blocking that. Once you sort out that, all you have to do is figure out how best to use your weapon to hit the legs.
Oh, and the bonus drop comes when you break all 6 legs before killing the core. Which can be tricky as it tends to hide the last leg behind the core. : /
