The Spitfire has a boatload of Thrust damage that's not factored into the weapon-sheet damage value, but other than that they're more or less the same - all staves except for the Spitfire v2.0 share the same moveset.

Once upgraded to Mk 14, they have nearly identical damage on their weapon sheets, but the Negotiator's total actual damage across all four values is 497, while the Spitfire's is 760.

The Spitfire is better. Just as fast, but with higher impact and higher Proficiency Scaling. With that "high" Proficiency Scaling, the damage really adds up.

IMO, the Spitfire staff is the best weapon in the game.

Hey, The Lapdragon, what's the deal with the Spitfire v2.0? where is it located and ... it has a different moveset?

To get the Spitfire v2.0, you have to kill Big Sister while destroying a minimum of two arms in the second phase. Ironically, I used the Negotiator to beat it since it had good range and damage for a staff, and the boss having only brief periods of vulnerability means you'll want to hit it as fast as possible.

You're confusing "best" and "late-game" - Spitfire v2.0 has the highest paper damage once upgraded, despite it being only from the midgame.. just because nanotech shows up later in the game, does not even remotely mean that it's better. The actual top damage spot goes to the regular Spitfire - it does 760 damage at Mk 14, compared to 686 for the Carmina and 663 for the Spitfire v2.0.

The Spitfire v2 has the extra movesets and sets things on fire (so adds an extra fire DoT), so it's still likely the best of the staves once you add in the extra damage from the DoT.

And yes, as TheGunheart said, it's from killing Big Sister without killing all four welding arms in phase 2 - you can kill one, two, or none of them at all, if you kill the front two (the two farthest from the Big Sister CPU core) then the back two will slide forward into those vacated spots and leave you alone in phase 3, just as if you'd taken the time to kill all four welding arms. I'm not totally conversant on the extra moves that the v2.0 gets, but I do know that it gets a "triple jab" that you can do from range that will do reasonable damage and sets the target on fire. I believe that there's a couple other combos that are changed on the v2.0, but I'm a 1-handed guy myself.
