i still wonder why i was never able to give davey his medicine, though i had it collected. i wasn't able to talk to him, the talk button simply disappeared?!
The issue is that she didn't die. She just disappeared. No corpse, no hit dialogue on strike, nothing. I get that NPCs are killable, but she got hit exactly once, then ceased to exist.
It wouldn't have really mattered if she'd aggro'ed on you or the enemy - she still would have died and there's nothing you can do about it. :-(
In the first version of the game (before the patches), she would aggro and fight them, but she always loses the fight.
You're evading the point, and it isn't helping. I was standing directly next to her and didn't even get the opportunity to try to stop it. If NPCs outright vanish and completely halt quest progress, that seems like a significant problem to me. Saying it doesn't matter doesn't change the fact that a glitch made it so that content is blocked out unless I restart my run.
The moment Irina got involved in the fight, she was as good as dead - whether the enemy kills her, you kill her, or she glitches out, she is gone from your game for this particular playthrough.
They really ought to make quest/story NPC's exempt from combat, but until they do we're stuck with what they've given us.
The conversations do not matter much. I am doing a playthrough where I choose all the negative answers, often just saying No, goodbye. Sometimes, their responses are quite funny (the first drone gets really upset if you tell him to buzz off!).
If necessary for the plot, they will somehow make me do what I have to do. In the NPC quests they always say: I will be here if you change your mind.
Edit: I just had something similar happen when I was in Maddy's room. The proteus from two rooms away came in, Maddy screamed: Go away, you're a bad man. Then she despawned. Alec Norris had also disappeared when I got back to Ops.
