I think that there may have originally been intention to give us the choice of being male or female - Mallory's storyline is nearly identical to Warren's, it wouldn't have been much of a stretch to see them having made voice logs for Warren's failed trip to the Executive Forum to mirror Mallory's if you chose the female character to play.
