I tried dual rigged, but I prefer the damage of the one handed over the speed of the dual rigged.
And I love the range of the staff and the smack down for a bit more control.
Also, in the beginning, it seems easy enough to just grind some proficiency, so try some stuff. I hadn't left the 2nd area yet, and already had 4 weapon classes over level 10 proficiency ;)
I've just beaten the first boss and got the PAX, seems like a solid weapon but quite slow.
What's the difference between the one handed and the PAX weapon type?
When getting to the Nucleus (next area) I'll change to Fractal Reaver single rig when I manage to acquire it, for dealing with Crystal Mass enemies and the final boss fight Rogue Process.
I have been using PAX ever since I first got it from him. Now playing NG++. It is slowish but does a hell of a lot of damage. After getting used to the swing and the rhythm it feels like a sword.
For some bosses you need a fast weapon, for those I use twin rigged. I have fully upgraded the angel wings (cannot remember what they are called, from the chrysalis girls I think).
The absolute best weapon in the game are the Claws of Gestalt. Those are dual rigged, so why not spend your NG time just ranking up dual rig proficiency with the likes of Firebug Throttle 2.0?
Playing NG+ and beyond with the Claws of Gestalt is pure pleasure.
Weapon proficiency also isn't the big deal that some have made it out to be, as it's easy to raise once you get to late game and/or NG+. So, don't feel as if you absolutely need to focus on one or two weapon-types and stick with them the entire time you play. Branch out, test each weapon or weapon-type and have fun.
