I would suggest you do not look at guides unless you are absolutely stuck and have no idea where to go for a long time.
My advice is:
1. Always look for sings on walls, if you see "OPS" sign, follow it and open short-cuts to Medbay/OPS.
2. Try to look for and memorize landmark areas in the game. These will help you to orient yourself in the map later. Whenever you get to a new area, find a remarkable spot and attempt to navigate, at least in your head, back to Medbay.
3. Look around every corner and check if there is no hidden passage.
4. Break all boxes, there can be loot in them or even hidden passage.
5. Whenever you open shortcut to OPS/Medbay, use it and retrack back to where you started to familiarize yourself with that route
With that, my advice is to explore every inch of the dark area of the map. Look for shortcuts, figure out how everything is connected, then the boss will eventually reveal himself to you in due time.
If your choice is between using a walkthrough or quiting the game - use a walkthrough. There's absolutely no point in getting lost and so frustrated you stop playing.
Gamers making walkthroughs and gamers using them is as old as games themselves, and I've always used them when I get stuck, either to know where I'm going or how to beat a boss. I also very much applaud and appreciate those that can play through games blind, and then offer help to others.
As a side if you find a large area with no bad guys in it careful walking into it as that is probably the boss arena
Another "couple hours" in Central Production B and I will give up on this game...

There is an area with a lot of red light across some yellow pipes that has a hallway with a locked door, how do I get to the other side of that door?
When you leave the medbay area and turn left twice(the only way to progress at first) you fight one guy and then there is a nonfunctional elevator, where do I go to make it work?
I could keep going with the questions...
If you encounter a locked door, look around. Most of them are shortcuts for later on, but some may have a red tupe coming out of them. In such case, fallow the tubes to find am overcharging station.
A spider boot, Also know as a Bloodhoud or leaping robot is a robotic 4 leged enemy, You can firtst encounter 4 of them near the begining of Central B. (2nd area) and they are a rather common enemy from area 3 on. They have abasic gray and upgraded white version
May I ask where you are? As the game has a heavy focuse on the Maze like explorative level design It is better to just direct you from where you are.
If you are in the 2nd area for the first time I would give a general tip: When pass the stairs to the 2nd train station you have to go down.
