The song!!

I love this song now. To me this song is The Surge. I listened to it on my scheduled break time.

"I was born in a prison
with no hope for escape
I got used to the silence
as I stuck in my cage

you can not miss
what you have never seen before
but deep inside you know
there must be more

I heard a voice but I could not follow
it was a language I didn‘t know
I‘ve seen a light and it used to blind me
was it real or just a dream?

as I left no one tried to stop me
so I learned,
I was always as free as I wanted to be
I was always as free as a bird
I was always as free as I wanted to be
but I was just too scared to see
who I could be"

Oh my, that's not at all what I imagined the singer of that song to look like lol.

I pictured a old grizzled cowboy wearing boots, jeans and a read & white plad shirt, sat on a wooden fence, strumming his old guitar while cows and horses romp in green fields in the background lol :D

The song is really folk, not country music.

The song actually gets A LOT more tolerable when it doesn't sound like it is played on a 80's walkman.

The lyric sounds like the real Warren is dead, the one you are playing is a 'mimic'?

"I was born in a prison" for instance would make sense if your protagonist is also a result of the experiments, especially since 4 days likely has passed since the surgery.

The fact that you can die and be reborn with your gear, also seems to apply to that theory.

Nah Warren is not a mimic. When I first booted the game up, he had a little post it note stuck on his head, that said: "Not A Mimic"

:D

I liked the song at first. Now I hate it. Particularly as it plays every time I've been molested by a baddie.

It's kind of like indoctrination. Which fits perfectly considering the setting and situation of Creo workers in it.

The lyrics can be referred to how the world is a hopeless "prison" exhausted of resources and life, but Creo (pretends) to have seen the light and understood a way to fix it. Or they can be referred to their workers, who often had disabilities like protagonist Warren. Their body was their "prison" and Creo wants to act like they gave them the means to be "as free as they wanted to be". Both versions fit the overall company propaganda theme and both turn out to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Pretty good pick for a song, that apparently wasn't made specifically for the game.

I agree. But overuse of a song makes us hate it.

Just realised they even acknowledged that in The Surge 2, by having Warren hum the song when you meet him. Like it's stuck in his head forever.
