Weirdly slow performance on a gtx 1060?
So, from what I've seen, this game should be able to hit 1080p/60fps pretty easily on cards like a 1060, a 970, or an rx480, but I get drops down to 45-50 fps frequently on my system with a 1060. For reference, this is on a Razer Blade with a 6gb 1060, an i7-7700hq (2.8-3.8ghz), and 16 gb of RAM.

Anyone else having trouble keeping a 60fps lock with hardware like this? Could my CPU be too slow? I don't think anything is close to overheating at all either so the CPU should be close to the boost clock all the time.

Should be fine as I'm using a 1060 on a Dell T7500 and running 60fps @ 2556x1440

Is it in specific locations or just in general? I have a 1080ti and when I started the game I was getting consistent 60fps at 4K, but when I got to the resolve labs the frame rate cut in half and locked at 30fps until I eventually dropped down to 1440p for the rest of my time with the game. I figure some areas didn't receive as much optimization as others...

I'm having an issue with stuttering. I have a 1080ti, 6700k 4.6ghz 16gb Ram @ 2900 and the game is installed on a 960 Evo Nvme Drive. It's like when you enter new areas you get a sudden stutter then everything back to normal. Also in this period my graphics card goes down to 139Mhz for a split second then jumps back up to 2025 then where it sits for the majority of the game which is about 1490mhz. it's really annoying.

The Resolve Bio Labs are bad for me as well. The first area was pretty framey too. I thought the game might have been using the integrated GPU but that wouldn't make any sense. I guess I could turn the resolution down as well, but then I'd have to play at like 900p or something. Eww.

on my 1060/i7 - i could not get a locked 60 no matter what combination of settings i tried. shadows/lighting on low etc and still got drops to the 40s. i ended up using RTSS to lock it to 30fps and crank up the settings to max with 120% scaling instead. much more playable and it looks nice too.

I tried playing it at 30 fps as well. I'm usually not much of a framerate snob but the game felt way less responsive to me at a steady 30 fps than it did at a turbulent 45-60fps.

It's odd how I've seen plenty of 1060 benchmarks of this game at a rock solid 60 on the highest settings at 1080p, but I get dips in the down in the 40's all the time. Good to know it's not just me, I guess.

probably worth noting that i am also on a gaming laptop. msi apache. i dont know enough to know if that could be the difference. i know theoretically it shouldnt but i know windows 10 has not been playing nice with hybrid graphics setups.

It seems like a vsync issue, try alt tabbing out and back in to fix it.
I'm running a GTX 970 and 6700k and also get drops down to 40s if I don't tab out.

It can hold a 60 fps lock without issue after I alt tab.

I tried the alt tabbing trick and I don't think it really did anything. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I tried optimizing the game in the Geforce Experieence just to see if that would help at all and it looks like some of the frame rate drops in the resolve biolabs might have been mitigated a little. It only drops to 50ish fps now.

I had a few weird drops but seems it was caused with excessive alt tabing. And rogue process droped my frames a bit with all those particle effects going on. Lowered shadows to high if I remember the rest maxed. Smooth sailing tbh on 1060, 2500k 4.4 and 8gb

There's an issue with the in game Vsync. I was getting Stuttering which cause drops from 60 to about 50 i guess. I was just noticing the stutters. It was when I would go into new areas or come across new enimies. Not always in the same places. I found out about the in game Vsync issue and turned it off and it fixed it. If you want to lock your frame rate try using Riviatuner or if you want to avoid screen tearing use fast sync if you don't have gsync. I run the game with everything maxxed out @ 3440X1440p and without the i game Vsyync it runs really smooth now.

Hmm, I turned vsync off and still dropped into the 50s. At this rate, I'm starting to think this game might be more demanding on the CPU side of things than I initially thought. Since none of these tips and tricks seem to be working for me, maybe the laptop class 7700 just isn't up to snuff.

I would try switching to borderless windowed, vsync off, settings medium and RTSS to cap it at 60. That was the best performance I was able to get at 60. Still wasn't stable enough for me, hence me locking it to 30 as I said above but it was decent and definitely playable

Have you monitored your system ram and Vram? You said you don't think your laptop cpu has enough power, but I don't think that's the issue. Can't be for sure as I have a different cpu, but The load on my cpu with everything maxxed out is only @ about 15-25%. I have a 6700k @ 4.6ghz. I noticed the ram usage is kinda high if you are running other things in the background. On my computer it shows almost 7gb and thats with nothing else in the background running except for the normal stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. The Vram usage is over 3.5gb, but I have 11gb so I don't know if it is using more because i have an excess of it. I would try monitoring all that and see if you get any spikes or anything that exceeds your system specs! Good luck!

Well, I guess I probably should have tested my CPU theory before blaming all my problems on it lol. I just tested it and you were right; the CPU peaked at like 40% usage and that wasn't even in one of the framey areas. RAM usage was pretty consistently at 4gb, so I had some good headroom there as well.

I guess now I'll look for some software that can monitor VRAM as I don't think there is anything on my computer right now that can track that.
