Strats to kill the quadrapeds with the tail?
i thought it was not so bad when they were non respawnable enemies in an optional location. But now i have to get thrugh the biolabs, and they can one shot me, have unblockable attacks, have multiple friends, including corrosive earth, and are not at all amused at my attempts to stun them.

My current strat is toside dode the initial attack, and if i fail (as the jump timings change) i am defenatly dead, slam with verticle attacks to break the tail. If the tail does not break in one combo then i am killed in one hit, if the tail IS broken off, i side strafe untill they are stuck in a slow trracking animation and hit one and instant dodge to the side untill it is dead.

As you can see if i fail at any point when fighting the 5 in bio its back to being born in a prison, with no hope for escape.

yes, they have 4 legs, and a tail.

1) Get yourself the Volatile Spectre ( http://thesurge.wiki.fextralife.com/Volatile+Spectre ) and upgrade it as much as you can (should be at least Mk. II by the time you start fighting these guys in the Biolabs). This weapon's high elemental damage deals massive damage to these robots, and its high Impact rating makes it easier to stagger them when you do timed block.

2) Get as close as you can to the robot, so it just starts kinda circling around you. Don't slide-attack it, just walk up to it (or wait until it leaps at you and Jump the leap attack with Block+RS Up). Target the robot as a whole, not its tail or legs (this strategy is for killing them, if you want the drop you get from knocking the tail off this will probably kill them too quickly).

3) As soon as you see it start any kind of attack animation, press and hold Block. The most dangerous attack is the backflip which comes out very quickly, so pressing block right away should get you a Timed Block and cause the robot to stagger instead of backflipping away. The other two attacks (tail jab and tail spin) will just be blocked normally (eventually when you get more used to the enemy you can probably time those too).

4) After blocking whichever attack it was, press the Vertical Attack button to do the black-then-counter thrusting attack with your Volatile Spectre, which will deal immense damage to the robot. Do this 2 times with a Mk. II Volatile Spectre and it will be dead!

5) If the robot gets away from you, it will rise up for a moment before it does its leap attack so you'll know when it is coming. Either Jump as it flies toward you (Block+Right Stick Up) or dodge to the side to avoid it, then get close and repeat from Step 2.

With a Mk. II Volatile Spectre I have literally killed these things in less than 5 seconds by blocking a hit, counter-attacking, blocking a second hit, counter-attacking again, and they are dead.

Remember that you can set a weapon as a "favorite" in your Gear menu and quick swap to it, so it may be worth setting the Volatile Spectre as a favorite and switching between it and your main weapon.

well i do have the volitile specter, and have been training the singles. though my attempts to block hits usually ends up with me born in a prison. will give it a try though.

Just don't try blocking the leaping attack from a distance, only block the attacks it uses when you are right up close to it. All attacks it uses when you are close are block-able and timing the block right will cause it to stagger. Even if it doesn't stagger, you can still do the counter-attack (as long as you yourself don't stagger and it didn't leap away) and it will deal full damage. The vertical counter attack is slower but deals more damage compared to the Horizontal one and there's always enough time to hit with it after blocking one of its attacks before it will attack again.

Blocking in this game stops 100% of incoming damage for all block-able attacks, and timing the block button to just before an attack hits you greatly increases the chance that the enemy will stagger from the block (your Impact rating also increases this chance). The problem is several attacks are un-block-able and will deal full damage. But this enemy's only un-block-able attack is the leap from a distance so as long as you are right next to it blocking is totally safe.

ok, will give it a shot. thanks

Blocking definitely solved my issues when dealing with those robo-dog bastards. Sliding into them is also a bad idea as their backlip can instantly knock you away before you get your hit off. I was using staves though. The increased range + crush damage really helped.

Oh I forgot to mention, I don't target the legs or tail with this strategy, just the enemy overall - targeting the legs or tail might reduce the damage you deal to it! I edited my post above to include this.

The staff with high elemental damage ( http://thesurge.wiki.fextralife.com/SERU+HSS+BioMaster ) is also a great weapon to use on them, but won't kill them after only 2 blocking counter attacks like the Volatile Spectre can (at least at Mk. II level of upgrade). I don't even primarily use single-rigged weapons, I just use this one purely for killing these guys.

upon finding one, lock on to one of its front legs. Only aim for its front legs, as it seems to stumble it more often then hitting its body. Then try to get close to it and get its back to a wall/corner so that when it does its attack back-flip, it won't go right in its jumping rush attack. Constantly move around it and wait for it to do something first, and strike it in the front legs.

Most enemies in the game, you can rush/make the first attack and it will end well. It seems that the robots are one of the few that aren't, at least for me. So I tend to box them in and let them do an attack first that land my attacks on their front legs, more often then not stumble locking them so I can kill them.

Homeless. May 22, 2017 @ 2:32pm
I usually destroy the tail first, dodge all the jumps and sprint attack after, and block every melee attack for counter attacks
Trogladonis May 22, 2017 @ 4:19pm
Like homeless said, go for the tail first. I generally use at least a medium impact capable weapon and do a jumping strike in at the tail, then back off. Regain stamina and jump back in. The tail should go in 2 - 3 hits and leave the bot with a gimpy backflip. Now any damage to the two front feet should stagger it so just do more jump in and jump out until it's dead.

Here I made a video to show how super easy my method is (also added it to my earlier description):
