Is it me, or is 2nd area kinda.. bs?
I'm a long time souls player, even played DS1 with a keyboard only. I'm by far not the best souls player, but I'm not bad.

However, this second area (after the metro), enemies are killing me in 1-2 hits... I have the most up-to-date armor and I can still do good damage to them, but I keep losing almost all my hp with just one hit... what am I miss?

it would appear they intend for you to either dodge everything or run all of the vital boost implants you own.
Sollorex May 19, 2017 @ 9:43pm
The combat doesnt really feel balanced till youre like half way through the game when youre rocking a buch of op implants... still some enemeis that 1-2shot you though
Padds May 19, 2017 @ 9:53pm
not a lot, im only 3 bosses down myself but i dont think you ever get much of a safety margin death comes easily any time.

but you do get used to the monsters , your weapon proficiency gets better, you start to find some really good game changing implants and bit by bit it gets easier.

You can block (Q) nearly all of the enemy's in area 2, after a succesful block you can do a counter attack which will make short work of them, for the arc bots, you can damage one of their front wheels limiting their turn speed and forcing them into repair mode.
Stop playing it like Dark Souls - that was my main mistake in the first couple of hours, then it got better.

If you're blocking then you need to know that there's a high block and a low block. You have to watch the telegraphs for the attacks and gaurd your face or your balls depending on the attack.

Failing that you can try dodging straight back if you have room. There's lot of tight corridors in the area so keep yourself lined up with the hall so you have room to back up. There's lots of those hammers so they have wide arcs to their swings which makes dodging to the side less effective.

Good luck out there and keep up with it. You'll get the hang of it.

oh and don't ♥♥♥♥ with the gaurds. They'll wreck your ♥♥♥♥.

The second area is great, the third is where the quality of level and enemy design begins to dip, and the fourth area is where everything goes to hell. The levels begin to feel like something made with some random game's create-a-level tools where every room is identical to the last, enemy placement begins to contradict the game's combat system with huge groups and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ganking, and enemies begin to have cheap moves that instantly kill you and are often placed in narrow halls that make death near impossible to avoid the first time around.

Pretty much. Its better to play it more like bloodborne. Quick in, attack, quick out, wait for the next opening. Sadly this is the closest thing to BB we will get on PC.

second area enemies are super ez. the issue is that the first area enemies were crazy dumb and had different attacks. these area 2 enemies are just different. I struggled with them a little bit at first as well, but after killing them a couple times I was rolling thru no issues. Each area has new enemies and you have to learn how to approach them, once you do they aren't that hard.

I find if I use single rigged and slide into any enemy in zone 2 they will die in one combo if you just keep using weak attack. If you run towards the claw guys and slide while they are also dashing to you then you will interrupt them and combo them to death. The guys with the big hammer you want to slide into them if they are standing still. if not then get really close and let them attack you.. Block the attack and directly after the first attack hits then you counter with weak attack combo. The worst thing the hammer guys can do is charge at you, then you are forced to only dodge out of the way. Either charge them or get up close so they just swing at you.

The spider robots are crazy simple.. Use the mod to gain more energy per hit. Slide attack in will fill energy bar for drone attack then you use melee drone attack if you have it or ranged if not.. You slide attack, jump back, drone, repeat and they die so fast.. You can also try, slide attack, drone, dash in a circle hit 1 or 2 times, back out, repeat.

You should definitely be using the mod that gives extra energy when attacking and convert 20 energy into 40hp so you can heal for free. A spider bot will allow you to heal yourself for free the entire fight because of how much energy a charge attack gives you. Once you get 2 of the mods that give extra energy when attacking things will be crazy ez. Slide combo will pretty much max your bar and then you can drone / heal for free.

Yeah, area #2 really seems to be the place where they try to punch into your brain how useful countering actually is in this game.

You CAN actually get through it anyway, but the game got a lot easier (and fun) once I figured out the block/counter and jump/duck/counter system.

Everytime when a poster asks: 'Is it only me?'... Than it's most likely only him :-)

They can be strong and even when your use to fighting them the hammer and butterfly guys can and will sometimes just wreck your face still with a good cheap shot or 2. Only some attacks really can be blocked easily it feels, better to use the dodge and sweep at them after you avoid the attack. Though that might just be me and my ability to time the blocks well and making the duck and jump work in a frantic at times combat setting.

Just... Don't go up the exo lift tucked into the corner of the first area yet. The guys up there are fast as hell and hit just as hard, making blocking hard and the small area you will be fighting in make dodging harder.

Right now I am at the second boss Area trying to not get smooshed by the thing, we will see if the third area is as bad as people are saying.

Blocking to me feels iffy at times to me, like the window to actually secure the block for some attacks like the blue weilder guys in area one and the hammer guys seem to have weird timings to be able to block there jumps and charges. Cause I will time it at what seems the right time, when they just get moving into the charge, but always seem to still get hit.

Avid souls player here too. I got annoyed at the 2nd area rhinos as well, then started dodging more, but I can't say the "slide-attack-dodge back-repeat" meta is an enjoyable or engaging gameplay. Most of the time I just sprint past them.

Or prepare for some frustrating awakening in following areas.

being good in ds definitely helps in this game but if you play it like ds youll die
FullMetalSlag May 20, 2017 @ 9:42am
As a longtime player of all Soulsborne games, at first the Rhinos in Part 2 kicked my ♥♥♥♥ in too. But after upgrading my weapons to the appropriate level, and taking time to learn their attack pattern, it clicked and i could slaughter them with ease.
