Workspace recycling unit change?

there is a switch (next to the bridge extender switch) that says "workspace changer recycling unit". cant seem to figure out what it did or does. Because as i remember the door underneath that control room was changed by that screen opposite. Could be wrong though - any tips or hints?

the rotating miniboss things change positions when you press that i think.. havent done them yet, i am afraid of such encounters <_< they were both on the same side and when i pressed it one went to the other side of the bridge down there

it makes the smelterbots move around, I think.

yeah it puts one on each side of the bridge instead of same side so you can kill them.
