How do I get 144fps?
Vsync is disabled but the game is still limited to 60fps for some reason. I know it's possible to get higher, but I can't figure out how to.

Like I said, vsync is disabled and the refresh rate is set to 144Hz. Or whatever the option was in-game - can't remember. But it's set to 144 anyway.

No special vsync enabled in the Nvidia control panel either.

Yep. It's all ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Beyond that, the performance itself is atrocious for me at least. I have a 1070 and i5 4690k and i can barely hold 60 fps with it dropping to 40 (!!!!!!) on high settings in 1440p. That's unacceptable.

Turning off fullscreen should give you a huge bump in frames
Mine went from sub60 to 122+

i7 2600k Gainward GS 1070 16 Gb Ram and 60 fps on 130% and all of maximum... yes stable 60 fps
But your right, a bit optimization would be fine... the antialiasing is bad on this game.

A tip, go at a area wher fps drops alt + tab out and again in... should solve sometimes.

is your destop set to 60hz, the game only goes to your desktop resolution and refresh,at least it's been my experience.

I'll give this a try next time I play the game.

It's not that the game isn't optimized enough for me to get more than 60fps, the game just is locked to it (well, I know it's not, but it is for me).

I've got an i5 6600k, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1080 so it's enough for more. I'll try disabling fullscreen.

check the settings file to make sure it has the right options all around, maybe bugged. Also are you multimonitor, it might be picking up the max of your other monitor.

In regards to optimization im getting a stable 60fps at 4K with a titan X pascal with everything maxed out in windowed mode with vsync triple buffered, no tearing, no stutter. Seems fine to me.

There is a Option in the menue for the refresh rate. It's set on 60 and for me you can't Change it. So the game is locked to 60 FPS :/

If i use vsync 1:2 my fps max is 72. On 1:1 stay on 60-65 ans sometimes up to 100-105. I try some option and thaïs game is not smooth

Found this old thread, because I had the same problem and I think I found a solution.

Open \Documents\The Surge\settings.ini and then change
max_frame_rate = 120
to
max_frame_rate = 0

The framerate limiter does not seem to work as intended so just set it to 0 to uncap the framerate and then use V-sync or cap the framerate via other means.

Edit: On newer installs the settings.ini file is in the games installation folder.

@EvPointMaster

damn i love you :-)

startet the game one year ago with my new pc and it works like a charm with 120fps with a 144hz monitor.

somehow on the black cerberus area the fps dropped to 60/70 with horrible performance. even when i start a new game. tried everything but nothing worked.

so i left behind the game almost a complete year. now i reinstalled it with savegame already there and tried your tip.

it works! never looked in the ini because i thought it has to do with a windows or nvidia driver update.

now it runs smooth again with 200fps and finally i can continue this great game.

big thanks :-)
