This is a very polished traditional roguelike. It has several advantages over the classics, detailed below:

Very small inventory simplifies inventory management and removes a great deal of tedium
Short game length makes death less punishing and allows for more difficult fights
Lack of natural hp regen removes the need for a clock and greatly reduces the need to rest
Integrated achievements let players know about optional challenges and conducts without needing to be part of a broader community
The effects of all stats and net effects of stat changes are explained completely in-game, removing the need for a wiki. It also makes choosing between different items easy and intuitive.
Multiple difficulty levels that serve a broad range of players
A UI that doesn't require you to read a man page to learn to use it

Honestly not sure why this game never got popular, it's easy to pick up and fun to play.
