any games similar to FF9's equipment mastery system
I love weapon or skill mastery systems in rpgs, being able to see noticeable improvement by using my favorite gear or skills and then get permanent benefits gives me the good serotonin, so curious if there are any other games with similar mechanics

final fantasy 12 has a skill point system that it sounds like you would like.

I think some Tales games use a similar system but I can't remember which. There are a lot of them.

But I agree, I do like the system in place here. Its one of the few legitimate complaints about FFX: They replaced the interesting Junction system from 8 and Equipment Mastery system from 9 with a much less interesting board game. FFX still has some of the best turn-based combat ever, but it's progression systems are kind of boring.

I can confirm Edge of Allegoria that just came out has that kind of system I like, but yeah I'll look into other Tale's games.

Not on Steam of course, but the Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced games are basically the same as FFIX -- equip stuff, learn abilities from the equips.

I actually played both using the retro achievements, had a good time with em both.

Mardek is also pretty good though it is technically a trilogy it is in actuality more like 1 final fantasy length game combined but, in a good way.

Difficult to play now, but Lost Odyssey basically took the skill equipment system from FF9 and just improved upon it.

Lost Odyssey, now thats a name I haven't heard in a long time, a long long time.

Yeah this and Blue Dragon are two games that really need a rerelease nowadays

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep has a similar system where you equip and level commands, then gain their attached ability once they're max level. The game's not very good though.

Check out Lost Odyssey. It uses the exact AP system from FF9.
The team behind Lost Odyssey (Mistalker) was founded by the father of FInal Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi.
