Favourite Eidolon?

I will admit I am an absolute fanboy for summons. I just like the idea of summoning some sort of giant monster/demon to smite my enemies.

And I think Final Fantasy IX was the installment in which the summons' (or Eidolons') connection to the plot and overal lore was the best.

So of the 12 (13) summons you encounter throughout the game (Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit, Atomos, Odin, Leviathan, Bahamut, Ark, Carbuncle, Phoenix, Fenrir, Madeen and Alexander Is your favourtie.?

It's a gigantic, gaping maw/gate to hell, floating in the sky with something like bloody entrails dangling from it. And the cutscene we saw it in was just epic!
...to bad it's pretty useless in battle, even with maxed power...

Battlewise I think I summoned Shiva the most, if you max out her power she is pretty effective when you compare her low mp cpst to damage ratio.
Emerald Carbuncle is also neat, just being able to cast Haste on everybody is always useful!

I think FF10 is above in this category.

As to my favorite, Odin, impressive and sad moment indeed when he one-shots Cleyra and maybe 80% of the remaining of Freya's race.

But I'm not very fan of summons in FF9 when it comes to battle, they are nowhere near as powerful as in FF7,8 or 10. But I'm okay with that, since it made fights more exciting compare to these other three.

Odin and Phoenix for me.

But, my play last time (many years ago), I didn't put Eiko in the main party. (This time I will.)

And yes last time, Odin was most summoned due to the fact that
1) he is obviously cool;
2) he pains than others (Odin's Sword is required);
3) he takes less mana;
4) he takes not much time (the animation is relatively short).

This means he's got the best battle performance and cool.

Never used them much. If at all in certain games, this one included.

EXCEPT.. And that is a big except, written in 10 foot high letters, in FFX.

Where using Yuna and summons basically turns any boss battle into cheese-it mode.
And is the most sensible way in my opinion, of starting to take down the first few hours of the Arena to start powering up your characters.

Bahamut, love dragons in general and he's been my favourite in every game regardless of whether there are better summons or not ^^

Technically those are Aeons, not Eidolons :-P

Imho the plot of 10 relied a bit too much on the summons. In FF IX the Eidolons were important but they didn't get nearly as much focus as the Aeons in X.

I like Ark. While it is disappointing that he does nowhere near the damage of other 'final' summons from other games, i.e. Knights of Round, I find the whole concept of him as being an opposite of Alexander rather ingenious. Alexander is Light, Ark is Darkness. Alexander is stationary on the ground, Ark can fly through the air (and space, apparently). Alexander can be seen as the ultimate Eidolon created by Gaia's crystal, Ark can be seen as the ultimate Eidolon created by Terra's crystal. It is a shame that we do not learn more about Ark, or that his opposition to Alexander isn't more spelled out in the game.

My favorite Eidolon isn't even in this game. It is Anima from FFX. Also a big fan of the Magus Sisters from said game. (Yes, I know they were a boss in FFIV.) But as far as this game is concerned? The Pheonix because of its pure beauty.

Odin from FFXIII, total badass. Love Lightning replica on the final move "RAPE THEM ALL"!
And Ifrit from FFX, like a lot his animation, i'm feel like a beast when summon him.

In FIX i like more Fenrir and Bahamut.

My favourite summon in all the games has always been, and always will be Bahamut.
