Moguri Mod 9.0 on Steam Deck works
First make sure you run FFIX or this won't work.
The Nexus Mod Moguri Mod itself doesn't work on Steam Deck. You'll get a failed to install message and your game will black screen all the time.
You'll need to go to the Moguri site and download the Memoria patcher and put it in the FFIX folder. Folder is located: Home/.local/share/Steam/Steamapps/common/Final Fantasy IX
Add the Memoria Patcher to Steam as a non-Steam game.
Click on the Memoria Patcher in Steam and go to properties and compatibility and use a Proton (I used Proton 9.0 or whatever is current). Run the Memoria Patcher and wait a minute or so. The next screen will tell you to hit enter to exit. Hold Steam button and hit X to bring up keyboard and hit enter. Then run FFIX.
From there go to Mod Manager and download Moguri Mod, 30FPS Videos, PSX Sounds, and Moguri Alternative Soundtrack.
When you are done downloading everything go to installed mods, make sure all items are checked and click the arrow button on the bottom to go back to the main page.
Exit the game.
Go back into the game and make sure on the main page that all items are checked and then run the game.

Thank you for this. A simple fix, but somehow nobody thought to put this simple information on their site.

"Moguri Alternative Soundtrack" I would NOT recommend playing the game using this mod if it's your first time playing it.

You really want to play with the original soundtrack of the game :)
If you watch streamers playing FF9 for the first time and using this mod "Moguri Alternative Soundtrack" people in the chat are always telling the streamer to disable this to play with the original soundtrack.

Because it's an amazing soundtrack :)

Please, can you not put to install it in your Steam Deck guide? Or make it obvious that's an optional thing that is not needed for a first time player?

Because new players will follow your guide and use this alternative soundtrack mod...

Is it also possible to edit the layout of your text with some space and hyphens to make it easier to read?

Thank you very much

Agreed, people who come upon this, don’t get the alternate soundtrack. At least not on your first play-though. The original is pretty amazing and I’ll always recommend it over the arranged version.

Great info, but can you remove the memoria patcher as a steam game once you have everything installed?

Finally got this working on my deck. Thank you for simplifying this where the moguri webpage couldn't.
