Not finding chocographs?
I see all these guides online about finding the actual digsites, but im a little confused about digging up the chocographs?

i found some, im a blue chocobo now..

i go to lagoon, i do like 10 games at lagoon and find no chocographs, only 1 "piece" of one.

do i really have to play it like 100 time?

my beak level is already 25?

how do i find the chocographs, i dont get it and no guides seem to explain it, they only show where to find treasure on the map.

what am i missing about the finding them part that every guide skips over.

it's random whether you get one. At one point it took me really long to get one but then I just got 3 in a row. The moogle does tell you when the area does not have any left so make sure to pay attention to that. When the color of your chocobo changes you might unlock some chocographs in older locations so make sure to check that too. The triple speed cheat is really nice for this mini game as it is quite repetitive.

You have to dig them up, but you can't progress too quickly in it either. You can't progress further than the ocean ability until after you get the Hilda Garde 3 (there's a glitch that lets you do it early, but said glitch messes up other things pretty bad).

As for digging them up, sometimes it'll take 10 games sometimes it'll take 100. When I was a kid it took me an entire weekend of nonstop Hot and Cold to get them all. Young me had bad luck.
I did this whole hot and cold yesterday in ~3 hours...

- I used an PS4 Dualshock Controller (faster - Software: DS4Windows)
- Activate Speed Up with F1 (using Memoria/Moguri Mod)
- In most rounds, i got the Chocobo Stones as the 7th treasure.
- I collected 2 or 3 stones and then i searched in world, before trying to get new ones.
- If you have all stones - at this time - the moogle say "no more stones here - search in lagune"

Maybe this helps you out.

chocobo wood - lagune - chocobo wood - chocobo airgarden (this was the series i searched)

Yeah using the speed up function completely breaks it because the timer still runs a real-time 60 seconds, while your Chocobo does everything sped up. Playing on the modern version, I have zero problems getting 8 treasures every single time I do a run of Hot and Cold. On the original that was quite literally impossible until your beak level was much higher or you had evolved your Chocobo a few times.

All of the minigames have been made easier in different ways. The sword fight in the beginning used to be nearly impossible to get 100 happy nobles in, now you literally just have to put in all the right commands. In the original, you need to put in all the right commands, in the right amount of time, with the right pacing as well. It was extremely difficult to do, and this modern version has never had an issue there. I think part of it was the kinds of hardware we used to play games then, physical discs, cathode TVs, wired controllers. Kind of a lot of steps for something that's probably timed to a metronome. Or it was something else, but I wasn't alone in consistently only getting 98-99 despite doing every correct command.

The part where one of the characters has been turned into a frog and is alone in Kuja's Palace also was harder on the original hardware and format. I think they toned some of it down since this modern version is reaching a significantly larger audience, they don't want the internet forums to be filled with complaints about how their minigames are too frustrating to perfect.

It's also worth noting that you can't get all of the "pieces" to make the whole special one until you have a ocean chocobo, not that it'd matter since you'd need a sky chocobo to utilize the special one.

I think maybe OP is getting mixed up because you get them out of order in general. Like you get the first chocograph in the list first, but all of them after that are out of order and some early in the list can't be found until later in the game. The Chocograph list does not follow the story plot in any way at all, and I can see why a modern gamer might get stuck thinking they're missing things that they just aren't able to unlock yet.

Yeah, I eventually stumbled across a guide/website (might have been a ff wikia) that said the drop tables are 1/16 chance of getting in first 4 digs, then it scales up 1/8, 1/4 and even 1/2 if you get to dig number 8 in a single round. That is easy to do with the speed up mode. You also can't more than one chronograph or piece in a round.

However, it was difficult to find these answers to this question at first because all the google results focused on finding the actual treasures.
