Did anyone else get annoyed by...
That place in FFIX where the weakest gear became the best gear, and if you didn't save the gear you had at the very beginning you had to go out of your way to get replacements or else you were screwed over when fighting? Ever since my first playthrough, I have learned to prepare for it.

I thought it was a unique flip, but it ultimately didn't matter too much. The place also gave you the weaker gear just in case you got rid of it anyway.

only was a problem the first time. then again you find a mage masher or a dagger and stuff in there

it's the weapons.. and it straight gives you starter weapons in the dungeon...

What was the plot reason for that by the way?

Ipsen's Castle, didn't find it fun myself.

The castle was supposed to be pushed through Gaia's crust from Terra, when the planets went through the 'Fusion'. Same with the Desert Palace and Oeilvert.

But why did it reverse the quality of equipment?

Now that was just gameplay I thought. Or adding to the whole upside down from another planet thing by having attack strength reversed.

♥♥♥♥ it, magic caused it or something.

^__^ this is why you never sell weapons EVER and just make Zidane mug like a mad man all the time haha
Orphy Feb 18, 2016 @ 9:27am
I didn't fin it particularly difficult. naturally by that time I usually have turned lower level equipment either into gil or better equipment, but you can find the needed weapons strewn about the castle. I'm also not sure anymore if it was just weapons or shields and armour as well.

I think it was just weapons that got reversed...

Was Ipsen Castle hard?

I'm seriously coming up blank trying to remember the interior of it.

I thought this was a clever concept for the Castle. Wasn't at least part of it upside down?

Yeah it looks cool, like Garland ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up a project and created some sort of Escher Castle.

knowing there's synthesis in the game where any item can be necessary for that at any point in the game i always tried to keep 1 or if i could 2 items i don't use just for that. and i don't think ipsens castle mechanics affected magic so actually i didn't find it hard at all. except the tonberries. is it the only place in the game where you can encounter tonberries? i only got to fight them maybe once or twice in all my multiple playthroughs.
