Save Game
Does saving your game give you full HP & MP in this game or do you need to use tents or items?

Saving does not restore your hp/mp/status ailments like it did in FFX. You need to rest at an inn or use a tent or other items.

Saving alone does not restore HP or MP. The most common way to do this on the go is via Cure spells for HP (you can cure all in the menu outside of battles) and with abilities like White Draw/Chakra for MP. Tents and items are alternatives but they are not free and is usually the more expensive way to recover. You will have to loot potions from chests, get as drops/steal from battles or buy, but keep in mind that ethers/elixirs cannot be bought so you want to use those sparingly, abilities that restore MP with cure as a follow up is more efficient when you are in a dungeon. Paying 100 gil for a night at an inn or find a spring to heal for free are the most efficient ways to restore your entire party if they are low on HP and MP.

Nah. Only the games after X do that.

Only tent for IX.

And not even a tent, if your health and MP are low enough, you have to use more than 1 tent in this game.

This game seems more of a challenge already in the beginning since your main character can only take like 2 hits before he goes down and you must rely on your healing items/magic to survive especially when you are on your own or else you are pretty much game over it seems. You can flee but may end up dead before you'll get the chance sometimes.
Thanks for the info Lich and yes i have to agree, it seems like paying for a night at the inn, find a spring to heal for free or to use a character with healing magic would be the best options here.

Really!? I thought it fully restored HP/MP.

I can confirm that if you are a high enough level and low enough on hp or mp it can require more than one tent to fully heal in IX. You can stay at an inn for full healing, but that is often not as convenient as just using two tents.

It's only a 60% HP/MP restore.

You can always do the beach side-quest and get full HP everytime you visit a beach ^^

It's quite unfortunate that you can't do this until you complete the chocobo sidequest which take up to disc 4 to complete. So it's really just a redundant way to heal late game since you are likely filthy rich by that point.

This is the most strict game in the series since the SNES games (I believe) when it comes to tents. They don't even revive party members.
Moogy Mar 21, 2016 @ 5:34pm
Lol strict my butt. You barely have to use tents in the game, there are inns and cure's you can use, besides the fact the difficulty is next to none.
Except if you decide to hunt for Excalibur II. Thats the only hard thing in this game with the King of Jump Ropes. Its insanely hard but everything else is child's play.
Very unbalanced.

Pff tents lol..

Ah yes thats true, if they cared about remaking like they did with IV somewhat, it would be great to have details fixed like that.

I have a feeling you are likely so used to the series you are simply good at playing it. It's definitely a more difficult game than VI/VII/VIII at the least, and probably the original IV too in my opinion. It's easily way harder than X.
