Do PS5 controllers work?
Hi everyone,
I want to replay old FF games using Steam and my PS5 controller. I have been severely disappointed by FF8 already.
So a question before I buy this: Can anyone confirm whether it works with PS5 controllers via Steam (simple plug and play)?

All the FF's on Steam work fine with the PS5 controller for me.

How? I just put in a refund request for FF8, because it didn't work for me at all. Not the remastered version, mind you.

I think you need to use mods to get the analog controls back for FFIX, otherwise it defaults to eight directional movement.

FFVIII Remastered is based on the ancient PC version. There may or may not be a mod for that to restore the analog movement because the PC version never had it. For FFIX, the underlying game is still the PlayStation version with emulation hijinks and other stuff happening (I think).

PlayStation controllers don't work for me with moguri mod.
I had to use an Xbox controller.

Having said that, it does state in the moguri mod that there are known controller issues.

DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers work fine with Moguri. You need to update the version of Memoria included with the mod, then use the Steam Overlay fix to allow the game to use Steam Input.

Playstation will NEVER be "simple plug and play".

Why cant people understand this. Microsoft and Sony are in direct competition with each other. Do you think Sony would ever allow Xbox controllers to work on a playstation? VERY unlikely.

So why do people expect the reverse?

There's a cheap controller brand called Steel Series that is modeled after the PS3 controller that I can confirm does work but I don't know about PS5 controller.

This is bunk. Windows detects DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers perfectly, and as of the last year (and with the firmware of the DualSense updated) the drivers included in Windows even support the advanced haptics of the DualSense over Bluetooth. It is up to developers to properly use this.

Microsoft does not and never has blocked Sony from releasing proper Windows drivers for their stuff. The years-long issues in Windows were entirely Sony's fault.

Just beat the game using a PS5 controller the whole way through, no mods just plug and play. Used a $12 Bluetooth receiver and nothing more.

I use a PS5 controller, had no problems so far getting any of my games to work with it.

I don't use BT though, have it wired via USB.
Pretty much plug in and play for me.

This! There are actually plenty of games that have native DualShock and DualSense support on PC. Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest one I've played. What a terrible post that guy made.

Unless there is a fix I have yet found.. I can't even start FF9 while it's docked because the controllers won't work with the fricken launcher screen.

You can use the PlayStation controllers as a mouse by holding the PS button I think. Can't remember if that's a Windows feature or a Steam feature though.

You need KB/M for launcher screen.
You need KB for first input into the game.
You can use a PS5 controller for the rest of the game.

If you use mods you can kiss PS support outta the water without DS4Windows.
