Lack of encounters?
Has anyone noticed a lack of encounters in their game? For me, there seems to be less battle encounters compared to the PS1 version. I literally just got to Cleyra and only had two battles with a Zu and a Sand Golem?!

On a side note, I'm loving the game as always, it's my favorite game ever. I just wish that SE or a clever modder can fix the UI and make everything a bit smaller including the dialogue boxes.

There does seem to be less, but it doesn't bother me too much. Glad you are enjoying the game!

there is less, Ive had to farm xp a few times to get levels which was something I had no need to do in ps1

Yeah I agree, it's nothing major, I enjoy being under levelled but not excessively. My characters average at level 10 in Cleyra but compared to my last run on PS1 I was averaging at level 16 ;O

Not at all. I got quite a few random encounters so far actually. I think this is a placebo effect for people that feel there are less. If someone wants to actually test it with tons of real data go ahead and I'll change my mind.

I seem to get more in the open world of Gaia than anywhere else, but saying that, yesterday when I was collecting the Scorpio stelazzio in Quan's Dwelling, on the way back I only had two encounters with mandragoras in the forest and then once out of the forest it was a clear sprint back to Treno :/ maybe its the characters running speed? I have noticed they run more quickly

yeah I noticed it too. For exemple I got only 1 encounter in Desert Palace, which is odd. not a bad thing though lol

I found the encounter rate odd as well. I made it through Burmecia, the trunk, and just now Fossil Roo with no encounters.

There's definitely less. There are some areas you can run through with almost 100% not getting an encounter unless you run on the spot for a while, where-as on the PS1 version you were almost guaranteed an encounter.

For example, you would get some encounters while crossing the first bridge of Qu's Marsh, but on the PC version I never once had an encounter without running back and forth over it.

Interesting, I'm not sure why this has happened. I'm so under-levelled with my abilities and equipment, for example my Zidane has only just got onto The Ogre and I've just got out of Fossil Roo, still have Gladius and Exploda to learn and the other characters are just as bad -_-

Disc 3 is gonna be a massive catch up, whereas on the PS1 version everything fell into place with the encounter rate, oh well, challenge accepted lol :)

This will probably effect the speedrunning of the game, right? I know that's the big effect on the speedrun of the game, is the amount of random battles.

Does anyone know if the 'stutter step' used in speedruns still works in this version of the game?

The original game has an obnoxiously long battle intro that you can turn off in this version. Like literally 12-15 seconds of the camera panning around every. single. battle. That alone would have a huge effect on speed running. (Scripted battles still have that intro, but that's fine for me. I hated it being there every battle in the original.)

if you truly know FFIX you'll know there isn't a change with the encounter rate.
and strop making these raggedy threads to seek attention.

This thread isn't for attention, you gotta be some kind of sad person to look for attention on here. I was actually interested in finding out if anyone had thought the same thing.

I would have said no before, but after going through the mountain path, I realized that-- hey! I didn't get any encounters at all! I had to go back in and run in a circle before actually getting in a battle (which I did because I was afraid I'd done something to break the game and disable encounters without activating the booster). Unless my memory mistakes me, in the original version, it would be at least 3-4 battles worth between the starting point and the exit towards MS.

I think there is actually a difference. ...Actually, I have my TV right next to my computer. I could bring my sister up and we can compare/race.

Rydia must do a test run to see the difference!
I probably didn't notice a difference because I tend to always have speed booster on...
you and you're sister both love ffix; i like that.

tbh, she likes VIII more than IX (she has... a less than satisfactory outlook on IX's art style. :/) But yeah, we grew up on the series together. It's part of why we get along so well.

This is just a random observation, but I do recall my nephew getting 0-1 battles on the path to Cleyra on the actual PS1 disc a couple years ago. I'm not making any claim either way here though.
