Game is just a black screen with grey border

I start it and it shows the splash screen, disclaimer and studio name but after that its just black. What am I doing wrong? I'm running it in admin mode

Go to the game's folder. There are two versions of the game. Go to the x86 folder and launch from there. Let me know if this helps.

I was in fact opening the 64 version but I tried opening the 86 version and had the same problem

You need to run FF9_Launcher.exe, running FF9.exe will not work on either version.

None of the above fixes ever worked for me. If you still get this problem, you need go to the FINAL FANTASY IX directory whereever you have it installed, open up the Settings.ini in a text editor like notepad, change Windowed=false to Windowed=true, save and close the document. Now use the FF9_Launcher.exe and run leaving the windowed mode checked. The game should launch in a window and it should progress past the splash screens into scenes and main menu. You can either play the game in a window, or you can exit out and re launch unchecking windowed mode and the game should run as normal. If it happens again, just repeat.
