Music: Is this the OST?
...or is it as in FF VIII steam version, some f***ed up version that sounds just... wrong? ^^

it pretty much sounds like the original to me

I can confirm that the soundtrack is the same of the original game! I only noticed that there are some little (verry little) differences in some sound effects (like while playing cards and you "capture" an enemy card). But you won't notice that unless you're obsessed with the ost like I am :D

Some people are reporting that there are sound issues. For me it sounds exactly like the PS1 game, for others it sounds like crap (the posts I saw were comparing the crap sound they were getting to youtube uploads of the PS1 music).

For FF7 (before the ypatched it) and FF8; they were rereleases of the original PC versions of the game that used midi versions of the soundtrack. PCs back in the late 90's and early 2000's had a wide array of sound cards and chips that sounded different from one another (before it was practical to use like oggs and mp3s for in game music), whereas the PS1 always had the same hardware.

From what I've been hearing, the OST itself is the same as the PS1 version, but the audio is really compressed and sounds like ass and will need a high quality music patch.

I did not notice much sound problems until playing the game with headphones which made it sound awful.

Pay no attention to people who claim the sound is the same quality (both effects and music). It is 100% compressed and is not to the standard of the original from 16 years ago.

Please spread awareness on this issue of the compression, because it is quite unacceptable. If you are one of the gamers who thinks the sound is the same, please refrain from posting and just move along.

The sound could really be better. The Maintheme on the beginning is very hard to tolerate. I hope they will change it or some Modders will.

Bah... why can't they ever get the music/sounds right? Thanks for all the replies! Gonna hold off until the audio is fixed.
