Is it just me or Ramuh only shows up one time when I first summond him? Every other time is just the spear with lightning. no Old guy? Is this some kind of bug or something.

The first summon is guaranteed to be the long animation. Every time you summon Ramuh after the first time, RNG determines either short or long animation. Not sure on the percentages, but your'e going to see the short version a lot more than the long

Thank you for answering mate

I think that if you have the peridot equipped to Garnet it might also increase the chance of the long animation (and therefore more damage). Damage also increases by number of peridots in inventory. You're also certain to get the long animation while Garnet is in Trance.

The long animation does more damage and there is a ability for Garnet to guarantee long animations

This was how it originally worked in PSOne.
The game works with two percentages to show the full animation:

If MP < Summon Cost * 2, there is a 33% chance to see the full animation.
If MP ≥ Summon Cost * 2, there is a 10% chance to see the full animation.

Basically you need to have an unrealistically small amount of MP for the higher chance.

The support ability Boost can be learned from a Pumice Piece by Garnet and Eiko and will guarantee a full animation when summoning. Garnet's Trance will change the "Summon" command to "Eidolon" which significantly increases the chance of doing a full animation summon. I don't know the math behind it, but I haven't seen her do a short animation while in trance, so I assume it's high enough.

I thought Garnet's trance only let her summon the last thing she summoned at random for no MP cost. Don't think I ever used the "boost" command, but I rarely see the full animation when Garnet's in Trance either.

[...] Finally, the animation has a major impact on strength. The first time a given Eidolon is Summoned, it will be with the long animation; after that, the chance of seeing the long animation is 33% if the Summoner has (before deducting the current Summon's cost) enough MP for two or less Summons of that type, or 10% if she has more MP than that. The short animation is only 2/3 as strong as the long-animation version (except for the random free Summons from Dagger's Eidolon Trance, which is always the short animation but uses its own power calculation ignoring both gems and the summon length penalty). Equipping the Boost Support Ability will cause the long animation to appear 100% of the time for Summons.

As everyone has said it's intended.
Long animation and number of gems in your inventory take part as a boost of the damage. There's an ability that makes 100% the chance of long animation but if you just got Ramuh, then you have a long way to go until it.
For now on collect as many peridots as you can if you want to boost Ramuh's power.

Every time garnets summon with the "Eidlon" form of trance is short, the only one that can be long is the first time, the actual that cost MP.

Greater numbers of the respective gems do NOT influence the probablility of getting the full animation. However, they DO boost the amount of damage the summons do. Hold on to those puppies! They can make a big difference!
