That being said, you don't need the extra stats to do anything in the game, it will just make certain things easier to deal with.
I'm sorry I can't Google it for you, but if you search for "stat maxing" or something of that effect, it should bring you back several guides that will explain how it works and what to equip better than I ever could.
I even did a bit of the marcus/eiko glitch before the patch but i gave up around level 30 for marcus because of how boring it was...
Pretty much every character is going to hit 9999 on a single/multiple enemies at level 99 either way. Party composition + strategy is better than high stats.
Stat maxing also depends on your own personal preferences, there isn't an "optimal" way to do it. You can choose to cap spirit and speed at the expense of strength and magic, or have more strength and magic but leaving spirit and speed relatively untouched.
