Is it through X amount of battles? Or x amount of fotsteps in the world? or just about waiting an speficic amount of time?

I think if you keep one male and one female frog left, then that helps, but no idea on this myself.

yeah I know, I heard that as well- but curious on what, beside that, make the frogs come back faster.

According to various wikis, it's supposed to be actual in-game time, but if the above save/reload trick works in this version...you got me.

I think it is just based on time spent not in the marsh. I don't think the rate is controlled by battle count or footfalls, thus cannot be manipulated outside of having golden frog. Save scumming MAY work, but I cannot find proof of this in the PC version.

Visiting a marsh does influence the growth rate in a negative way (will slow the growth down)

From what I can gather, if there is a golden frog, leave that marsh for about 2 hours. No golden frog, give it 4-5 hours. Though a lot of this research was done on the PS1 version, so it could have changed.

But yes, always leave 1 male and 1 female.

save ... load trust..

It is based on time while gone from the marsh, but visiting a marsh before it's ready resets the clock. Like, the game takes a timestamp when you were there last, let's say 1h24m31s, then, if you go back at 1h38m12s, that won't have been enough time, but the timestamp of last visit will now be 1h38m12s, and you will have to wait longer.

Just tried this and had the exact same frogs as when I saved. Would love it if this were true though.

Well. It's still a good idea, because of how the mechanics work. Reload your save if no new frogs because not doing so you'll have to wait longer otherwise.

Honestly, only taking 5 frogs from the pond, leaving a golden and male/female is just too much trouble for me.
I tried leaving a golden with another frog... worked the first time. The second time, I checked the pond again, and my frogs were gone and only had 1-2 tadpoles. I was not happy. I'm guessing it's because both frogs were the same gender, but determining the golden frog's gender is way too much trouble.
So, I just clear out the ponds now. ♥♥♥♥ it.

I only realized a bit too late you can use Cheat Engine to speed up the game and it affects the timer. I was able to get 14 game seconds per second with speedhacking. Obviously, finding the game timer would be less trouble, but for some reason, it's in a different format than the Chocobo Hot & Cold timer (which is a floating point value in this version; in seconds).
