Visiting a marsh does influence the growth rate in a negative way (will slow the growth down)
From what I can gather, if there is a golden frog, leave that marsh for about 2 hours. No golden frog, give it 4-5 hours. Though a lot of this research was done on the PS1 version, so it could have changed.
But yes, always leave 1 male and 1 female.
Just tried this and had the exact same frogs as when I saved. Would love it if this were true though.
I tried leaving a golden with another frog... worked the first time. The second time, I checked the pond again, and my frogs were gone and only had 1-2 tadpoles. I was not happy. I'm guessing it's because both frogs were the same gender, but determining the golden frog's gender is way too much trouble.
So, I just clear out the ponds now. ♥♥♥♥ it.
I only realized a bit too late you can use Cheat Engine to speed up the game and it affects the timer. I was able to get 14 game seconds per second with speedhacking. Obviously, finding the game timer would be less trouble, but for some reason, it's in a different format than the Chocobo Hot & Cold timer (which is a floating point value in this version; in seconds).
