So digging up Ultima Weapon seems a little trickier in this version of the game...
In previous versions, youu could tell when you were in the right spot using the map cursor, but in this version, the cursor doesn't seem to behave in the same way, so that method is out. Any suggestions?

You're right, the cursor acts differently in this version.

But out of luck, I managed to get it on my second try on this spot. I noticed on the minimap your yellow dot is slightly to the left of the Shimmering Island dot.

it's exactly the same, in the middle of all the white chunks

Yes, it is exactly the same, but you have to be very point specific and there are no bubbles to tell you if you're at the right spot. You just got to keep trying with Dead Peppers until you find it.

The trick in the PS1 version is to bring up the large map. If you're in the right spot, you'll automatically have the cursor highlight Shimmering Islands

In the end I was able to get the treasure by finding a visual of the right spot, still burned through a few dead peppers though...
