Outside the ice cave in the woods I meet a squirrel, he wanted ore so I threw one at him and he said that I should "say hey to ghost" or something similar.

It's for a side quest that involves friendly enemies. Throughout the game you can meet more, and if you do what they ask you can get plenty of AP for it, as well as something else if you help all of them. I believe you have to help some before others so that they'll show up, hence the squirrel saying "say hey to ghost".

Oh ok, sorry I forgot about the "no spoilers" part, I tend to read FAQs of games instead of looking advice from a forum since its more accurate and faster that way...

Yeah it was related to the Friendly Enemy Sidequest which ultimate reward from completing all of them is the ability to harm Ozma with physical attacks...

It's an uncommon steal from the pythons in the grass around the same area.

...my thief steals those all the time from other mob too, plus it has also drop off alot of other mobs too (ck your inventory you should have some by now...if you didnt sell it off) rule of thumb always have extra stuff in inventory for said freindly mob...cause you will need beable to give them what they want for that side quest to move forward. i think each will ask for something different?

no, the cat pretends to be a friendly monster, but isn't. This friendly monster quest comes in handy at the end of the game against an optional boss.

a lot of ppl have said why. Squirre/ghost/whatever is a different friendly monster that you're likely to meet next.
