Is this the only ps1 Final Fantasy game worth buying enhancement wise?

Kinda curious on what everyones opinions are on the other 2 games on steam.

FF7 with 7th Heaven Mod, FF8R with Lunatic Pandora Mod, and FF9 with Moguri Mod are all excellent buys on Steam imo and easily the best way to play each of the games as fans have done some fantastic things with the graphic mods for them.

And honestly, I see no difference in looks between the vanilla remade version and the Moguri Mod.

The sprites and backgrounds were smoothed out tremendously. Looks great now. I would recommend the Alternate Fantasy mod, but NOT as a first playthrough, it can be rather tough.

The difference is pretty MASSIVE to me.

Vanilla didn't really do much to improve any of the backgrounds from the original low res 4:3 version of the game. It's full of aliasing, pixelation, extremely blurry, and full of compression artifacts.

Moguri also made it possible to play in 16:9 as well as have the original font option. Among some other things.

Actually it did, it made the backgrounds MUCH more clear.

If you ever played the original PS version, you'd know the difference lol. A friend of mine couldn't even play FF9 because it gave him a headache because of how low res and pixely it was.

The right side is clearly a fan made redrawing... Square most certainly did not redraw the backgrounds from scratch which is what it'd take for that kind of difference.

If the game truly looked like the image on the right, Moguri wouldn't have ever existed in the first place... that's even better than Moguri's AI upscaling job.

It'd be amazing if the game looked like that, but sadly even with any of the existing mods it isn't going to to look like the right hand side. Moguri does AI upscaling, but not full on redraws.

I call BS because vanilla is the left side... Right looks like one of those fan made mock ups and definitely isn't in the game.

Lol it's not. The left is the PS version. The PC version updated a LOT. Remove your mods and see how it looks. The right side is the remade version with no mods.

Or, you can go find a emulator online and play FF9, it looks bad.

Yeah, and this looks nothing like the fan-made image you posted previously. This one is a legitimate comparison. After all PC did in fact update/touch-up character models.

The other one was fake, no questions about it (Square most certainly didn't go through and redraw every background from scratch... which is what it'd take for that result as it's completely remade, not simply touched up and hence why I know it's fan made).

You can clearly seen in screenshots (not just ones I have posted) that they not only updated characters models, but backgrounds as well. They don't need to "redraw" them for them to be updates, but you're so far up your own ass to see that.

It's great that people have mods for the game, but claiming that this guy did all the work is disingenuous.

I have played EVERY single version of FF9 ever released. I didn't even have to look twice to notice the character AND BACKGROUND updates in this version.

I'm sure on Square's end it was nothing for them to throw a fresh coat of paint on the game, but don't sit there and pretend to know what you're talking about

Yes, and if you actually played the original, you'd see a big difference. But your argument was that the backgrounds weren't touched at all.

The right side is most definitely a fan made redraw... There's no debate or question to be had about it. Square did not redraw any backgrounds from scratch... and that is certainly not just a "touch up"... It's a full on redraw (and ANY artist would tell you that is a FACT). You can spam a thousand posts claiming otherwise, but it isn't going to change that fact.

I have played the PS1 version of the game. I have played the PC version unmodded... and I have played the PC version modded. I certainly have the eyes to see the difference between the three. I also have the eyes to see a fan-made redrawing for what it is as well... and that original art you shared most certainly is not in ANY version of the game.

Even if it's not real, that's not what was being discussed. You were being called out for giving this mod creator all the credit for upgraded backgrounds, when you said Square didn't touch them.

Ah yes... and posting a fan made background and lying by claiming its "vanilla" proves that I was wrong about what Square did or didn't do in terms of the backgrounds?

Again, all one has to do is look at the images on the store page to see what the backgrounds in-game look like.

Or heck, watch the YouTube video I've linked that showcases the difference between PC Vanilla and Moguri's mod.

Moguri's mod certainly isn't perfect... it's an AI upscale after all, but to claim the differences are unnoticeable is a pretty silly claim... especially for one who keeps trying to say they have the ability to tell the difference.
