I use this with moguri mod...there is a version that work with moguri
After she finds out that a certain character is in danger her personality suddenly flips and she becomes modest, sensible and romantic. It's like her personality was suddenly swapped out.
I think it would've been better if she had a bit less plot armour, or if there was a fight where she can be defeated in the late game or something, and if she experiences a gradual character development from an arrogant and narcissistic war criminal to a true knight.
But her abilities, music and appearance are all very cool XD
Beatrix has this domineering atmosphere about her both in terms of personality, overwhelming might, position and history, and even appearance.
I don't quite agree with Kiri in that her personality swapped. She still maintains a lot of what she was before and she was slightly arrogant as one of such power would typically be, but she wasn't short sighted or stupid. She merely adhered to her code of honor. As for condescending... its true she was far stronger than our party so why wouldn't she look down on them? She didn't even try and she nearly slaughtered the group during their first encounter leaving them for dead. She is never mockingly condescending. She merely knows she is stronger and looks at them with some degree of pity.
What plot armor are you talking about exactly Kiri? She is too strong for our party to defeat. Even if we got her HP to zero in the battle she would just get serious and instantly wipe us because she wasn't fighting seriously to begin with. That isn't plot armor. Even at the end of the game her might still rivals and may exceed everyone except Zidane, Garland, and Kuja (obv excluding the special true final boss).
While feelings for Steiner do develop over the story she puts her duty first and foremost. She is actually indicated by Baku and others to be rather warm and treat others well though she is also extremely strict with her soldiers, as well as herself. She absolutely never displayed any degree of narcissism. Her entire character is about self sacrifice.
Personally, I liked her because she breaks the typical mold of being excessively romantically inclined, throwing everything to the wind, or having power she earned that can rival and exceed the strongest, while not being a true bad guy and having some character development that isn't half bad in the story. It would have been great if she had more focus but what we got was still pretty great.
