I was kinda wondering this myself... I noticed that whoever did the font recreation of the PS1 font only did 1 size font, and I think what is happening, is that the game wants to use maybe 14-16pt font (or at least that's what it looks like in relation to other fonts) and the guy who did that font, did it in 12pt only so Windows (it's a Windows TTF font) is blowing the 12pt font up bigger?
I think maybe someone should take a bunch of screenshots of the PS1 game, recreate the font, but do it in other sizes maybe? Or figure out what size the game wants, and do it in that size and do it a bit more faithfully? If I knew how to create a .ttf file I'd be tempted to try that myself.
EDIT: Huh, I just googled it and..... okay. I think I'm gonna see if I can figure this out, lol.
EDIT2: I opened that font and... yeah, the guy used big huge blocks to make the font, but the program I found (BirdFont) to edit it is far too confusing, can't figure out how the thing works. But in theory anybody could download it and modify the font to make it look better.
I just installed moguri 8.2.1.2, and the game crashes every time when I try to boot it. FFIX is on the drive that has the steam installation folder, I reinstalled both the game and the mod several times, but nothing works. (Disabled the steam overlay just for good measure too)
When I start the game, I get the moguri mod launcher, I then hit play, FFIX starts up for a few seconds (only a white screen) and quickly crashes.
Here's my log, though there isn't much.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Was going to try it today actually but thanks for saving me the trouble xD
I ran into one while rescuing Dagger in Alexandria, right after I found her, grabbed her, and on my way back out of the castle, two instances of the BGM were playing but one was delayed a second or two.
Saved my game at the moogle there, and went back to the Title Screen and the BGM was still playing, had to quit the game entirely and load the save up and it worked fine thereafter.
Together with the recent update that finally fixed the UI size I can confidently say this is the definite way to play the game.
All that's missing is the option to toggle the HD backgrounds for purists who still want to keep some of the other options the mod includes and you're pretty much golden.
Did you disable Overlay to fix the controller issues? If so, you can't take steam screenshots.
You could do screenshots manually by using the Print Screen button, and then open windows paint and click the Paste button.
I can use the overlay, take screenshots and use my third-party logitech controller without a problem.
All I did was make a fresh install on my D: drive(maybe that helps?) and install moguri on top.
I'm also running the game in window-mode(with borderless gaming) if that matters.
Yes, unless you want to reinstall moguri in the future.
Now.. when i disable all of the cheats through the launcher the game works fine and my pause button/select button are not tied to my right/left trigger. When they are enable, this causes issue where the speed mode and no battles cheat cause my right/left trigger to work as a pause/select button while also enabling these cheats when the buttons are hit.
I don't know why it does this, but it also causes an issue where I can't go back while picking any of the options through battle. it just flickers the battle menu and i'm forced to go through with my action.
and yes, I do have the overlay disabled through steam (I've seen a post yesterday that recommended that but it didn't work for me I guess).
EDIT: for anyone having issues, try to unplug your controller before loading up the game and then replugging it in once you're at the main menu. this seemed to of fixed my issue.
How can I activate X3 speed? Thank you.
