Its not like its exclusive to IX
I just hate that i HAVE to win atleast 2 of these card games.
I just wanna go on with the story.
They kind of purposefully give you the two dumbest AIs for that event that can be found in the game. You can probably win by randomly putting down cards. <_<;
But i did it now :p
Aaaand no i lost at the last (3rd) game =_=.
But i can atleast keep on playing the story.
1. ) You can get the ring via synthesis shop later (extra city, fly to reach) IIRC.
2. ) It sounds cool but actually sucks. Auto-life works once per battle and the AP cost (or w/e cost for abilities equip) is insanely high, like actually legit ludicrous. You will need those points for other things on actual harder enemies, especially super bosses/hidden mobs for things like anti-freeze/heat/etc. and even with the max amount of points it can be very difficult to fit Auto-Life as other options are simply better.
Thanks for the information^^
Seriously, this game is built on the ethos of interrupting gameplay.
Regarding the cards, a rather bizarre design fact that almost ALL of the interesting/unique cards are acquired only after the tournament when there honestly isn't a real purpose to them from that point on.
I think some people have trouble realizing that RPGs aren't about fast paced gameplay or storytelling. They're meant to be taken time with and explored.
As a note, the reason the card game gives no real rewards outside that one event is because they were addressing the complaint that FF8's card game carried a sense of obligation to play due to the rewards. So instead they focused on making the game fun and collectible but didn't tie it to any real rewards as a trade off.
The game itself was developed as a stand alone card came in both video game and physical cards outside FF9, so it was really just made to be fun.
Yet triple triad is far more fun imo and only required for low level finishing in FFVIII, though I can see why a lot of players would want the rewards regardless of play style. Thanks for the info on why they designed it this way, just wish they hadn't lol tetra master sucks :/
Not sure you can say an RPG isn't about the story though... Without a story the lore of the world is meaningless to me so why would I explore? But then maybe i'm the odd one out?
