I was told you press F1 but doing that does nothing

It is F1. If you have certain mods installed you need to enable the boosters again in the game folder, memoria.ini file.

[Cheats]
SpeedFactor=5
LvMax=0
Attack9999=0
BattleAssistance=0
Enabled=1
MasterSkill=0
GilMax=0
NoRandomEncounter=0
Rotation=1
Perspective=1
SpeedMode=1

Enter "1" instead of "0" to "Enabled" for Speed and "1" for the other ones you want on.

do they disable achievements?

@Proxidist

I am not certain but i think achievements still work. The "rumble" feature for controller is broken with mods, but getting "analog support" instead.

I don't even know if there is rumble without mods actually... Option is there though.

Pause cheats (9999,No random encounters, Battle assist, speed) don't disable achievos. the others do though.
