The strongest party of the game at the end....

Eiko is the strongest character in the game, Arise,Esuna,Sancta,Madein,Phoenix get this character the strongest. If you use just one white mage there is no reason to include Garnet in the party.

Zidane is of course in the party. He is very useful for stealing, for his speed, and has a very strong attack. I say, however, that Zidane is very useful just for stealing..Amarant Frejia Steiner has strongest abilities to attack.

If Eiko is the strongest character in the game, the second is without doubts Quina. Frog drop is a 9999 damage sure attack just consuming 4 MP, without considering other abilities very Usefull..Mighty Guard,Bad breath,ANGEL SNACK ( Wonderful against Ozma),Vanish,Magic Hammer,Autolife ( this too wonderful against Ozma).

The fourth Character depends on what you want..Zidane is obligatory, Eiko and Quina are clearly the strongest characters in the game. The fourth depends.

1)Vivi could be useful just if you have Doomsday and all the party equiped to be restored with that attack..In this case Vivi could be useful and wonderful..Without this strategy, Vivi clearly sucks and is the worst fighter of the game ( Even if I love him as character).

2) Garnet is a white Mage and has Bahamut that could be very useful..So, it's a good choice without any kind of doubt. Garnet and Eiko could be in the same party without problems considering that both has very strong abilities in attack and defense.

3) Steiner is a valid pick too..If you fight Ozma, Steiner's shock abilities guerantees 9999 damage, he has high HP, and a great attack. Antivis and Antiscutum could be useful.

4) Frejia and Amarant has good abilities..Frejia Jump can save you in same case, Amarant has valid abilities but..But I think that if you have Zidane in the group obligatory and you want another Fighter Steiner is better.

So..There are three options

1 Zidane,Quina,Eiko,Vivi ( with doomsday trick..Vivi consumes too much MP however..I prefer Garnet, she is more versatile)

2 Zidane,Quina,Eiko,Garnet ( for me the strongest and versatile party because you can heal and attack with three characters..Quina Eiko and Garnet are useful both in attack and for healing..Surely the best party for fighting Ozma and a Boss)

3 Zidane,Quina,Eiko,Steiner ( This is probably the best party for random battles because Steiner and Zidane do strong damage without consuming MP..Quina of course with Frog doom is overpower and Eiko...Well, you must have in your party..Even if in the random battle she consumes a lot of MP..But a White mage is needed so...)

I wouldn't say it's obvious until after reading the post, but it doesn't matter it's clear now what you meant.

It's been too long since I played the game to comment personally however I can say it's a critical mistake not to level Steiner and Quina. My nephew ended up having to spam phoenix downs and hope to survive until Zidane joined a certain fight.

Eh, I rarely if ever pick my party members based on whether or not they're stronger than other party members. I get that for min-maxing purposes you may want to go with that sort of thinking, but I'd rather struggle through the game with characters I really love than annihilate all opposition with characters I'm not as fond of.

As a result I usually end up with a party of Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, and Vivi. Although I enjoy swapping Freya in there every now and then too.

It's not that I dislike the others (seriously, is it even possible for a reasonable person to dislike FFIX's cast?), I just enjoy the others more. Vivi and Steiner in particular are probably my favorite playable characters in the game.

Well in Steiner's case it's the fact that he's consistently hilarious, often times Steiners shenanigans are the highlight of whatever scene he's in. That isn't to say he can't be serious at times, and his personal development from unquestioning servant to an individual with a mind of his own is well done.

As for Vivi, in many ways I see him as the heart of the game. His journey to discover who and what he is, as well as his connection to certain events and characters make him thematically tied to the games story. His is a journey of life, trying to understand your purpose and coming to grips with what death means. All of which are themes that are heavily explored through a variety of characters.

Kuja and Zidane both were created for a violent purpose and finding their place in spite of that purpose is part of their characters, and trying to understand ones own mortality is a big part of Kuja's character later on. The other black mages and the genomes have dilemmas of purpose or difficulty processing death as well.

Vivi so perfectly encapsulates these themes that are a part of understanding life that I can't help but feel he's the heart of the game. Plus it's hard not to root for the little guy as he stumbles his way through life.

Vivi and Steiner are wonderful character. Vivi is the best character created in all Final fantasy saga in my opinion and he is the real protagonist of FFIX.
However those two character are maybe the weakest of the Game.
Vivi is usefull just with doomsday trick, without that he sucks a lot. Steiner is good for some ability hig HP and strongest attack ( with excalibur II, without neither that), but Frejia is better if well trained as fighter for his dragon crest ability.

Maybe Amarant is weaker then Steiner..Maybe.

Very good. I tend toward Vladislak's prioritization, if not is exact priorities, having seemed to get all I could out of the powergaming view years ago.

Regardless of usefulness, my favorite party is Zidane, Freya, Vivi, Steiner. Zidane steals and late-game gets Thievery for guaranteed 9999, Freya is all-around helpful support and attacking character, and gets Dragon's Crest for guaranteed 9999. Vivi is just in general my favorite character, but his Black Magic is always helpful especially in Trance, not to mention him bringing Steiner an additional skillset in Magic Sword. I don't see why you'd want to use Steiner in and of himself without also bringing along Master Vivi.

Garnet and Eiko are nice, Eidolons are helpful, White Magic is definitely helpful, but they just never really found a place in my party. Vivi's Black Magic was always powerful enough, and Freya could protect us with her buffs and items are also quite viable for healing. I love Blue Magic, so I wish I could have used Quina more, but I just couldn't get into Quina as a character, a fighter, or anything really, so it just never really found its way into my party. Amarant is just the weakest in regards to pretty much everything, waste of a character slot to me.
