In general I prefer Eiko, but that is because I do lvl 1 runs, so I don't have much use for Daggers Eidolons. (And Eiko has Phoenix)
Zidane is of course always in my party.
For my third party member I use Amarant. He can revive people, cast auto life, and keep the MP of the party up, while dealing great physical damage.
The fourth character is bonus, usually Freya or Steiner or Quina.
Steiner for raw damage, Freya for good damage + some survivability, Quina if you need one of his gimmicks (most notably: MP hammer, Night or limit glove)
These are just rules of thumb of course.
If dealing massive damage quickly is the issue then neither Eiko or Dagger is in the party. (Steiner + Charge). Or dagger instead of Eiko if I need 1 turn of good damage from my mage (Bahamut -> no MP left at lvl1)
At higher levels it really doesnt matter all that much, since even at level 1 your party is just about invincible if you equip them in the right way.
I like every character/team, but this was my first end-game party comp and it's nostalgic for me.
Zidane
Eiko
Quina
Amarant
But if I had to make a party of my favorite fighters then it would look like this:
Zidane
Vivi
Freya
Steiner
Zidane
Freya
Quina
Dagger
Memoria:
Steiner
Freya
Dagger
