Then, play some vs computer and at when you start to vaguely understand the game rules you can start the multiplayer sessions. Use pot luck terrain pot luck armies skirmish with medium or large forces with auto force selection. people will pick up your game quite soon.
Choose the era which fits you most. My fav is the Age of Machiavelli. The armies are really diverse in this era.
