The one thing about PoT is that it will be on mobile, and we know how kids are with mobile games (fortnite pandemic). If something like PoT can run on phones, can you imagine the sheer potential userbase?? Oh, and I forgot, it can be on consoles too.
That being said, the vision for the Isle is different enough that it hopefully shouldn't matter too much, so if it's executed well, the Isle should be just fine in the future. I get the impression that PoT is more of a survival-focused dinosaur game, and the Isle is part dinosaur survival and more parts sci-fi type of game.

Seems quite similiar to the ISLE except the background environment are much more decorated with plants and trees that make it more realistic. Not sure about the combat and gameplay, hopefully it will balance off the Carnivores and Herbivores strength and weakness. Importantly, hope that the POT game developers will actively engage with players and seriously consider players feedback (after seeing so many tread about Rexes dominating stats and skill they still ignore it, not even try to engage with players feedback). Hope that they will not insert favoritism to any particular dinosaur which makes it all too mighty that will tip off game balancing experience.
I want to play dinosaur game, not monsters with mutants and humans.
Game right now is far from beeing perfect or beeing finished, but at least it's very decent dinosaurs life simulator. PoT is my last hope for NORMAL game with dinosaurs.
The Isle is the same game that did this
- copy and pasting sounds from Jurassic Park
- bigger and larger fictional versions of dinosaurs that are meant to be more dangerous and scary
- Venomous dilophosaurus writes itself
- changing the utahraptor into a fictional species of raptor with broken wrists for good measure
- Dinosaurs being fabricated on an Island but something goes wrong and they break out
There is nothing wrong with Inspiration, but The Isle can claim copyright to a much more general dinosaur game simply because it has dinosaurs?
If that was the case we'd swiftly get sued into oblivion by Universal, so I'm not sure why you're lying about that. Considering that you usually put care into your argumentation I'd say this surprising false statement knocks away a substantial amount of your credibility.
Since it is constantly asked/stated, this is why people claim that The Isle copied Jurassic Park raptor sounds. You can say it was "heavily" referenced, but to me and others it's a blatant copy.

I don't hear any difference and this is why I get upset when The Isle devs claimed other games are copying them, very hypocritical (and also untrue). Also the sound effects won't be hit with copyright because that can only happen if it is proven they were created the same way, which I'm certain they were not but it doesn't take away that the sounds are near identical.
Also I don't think that single statement, which in itself is not far from the truth, takes away the credibility of Krona. Saying that means you ignored the rest of his/her post.
Also I don't fully understand why Utah's broadcast and Rex's calls were changed? The majority of people were satisfied with them afaik. The old calls were unique to the ingame animals, and were much better in many ways imho.
Because they outright stated that we copy/pasted sounds from Jurassic Park, which is not the case. It's a substantial knock to their credibility if they start their post with an outright lie. It'd be an entirely separate matter had they said they were inspired by Jurassic Park.
As for this, I'll shoot a link of this thread over to Dinosauriac who is our sound guy. He'll be able to give you a detailed discussion for this specific topic.
No copy/pasting needed. For only $5.17 you too could have access to the same source elements as the wizards at Skywalker Sound...

There's inspiration taken from the movie franchise, yes. But outright ripping it off I would have to say no, since it took a bit of work to clean those up and I added extra elements such as breath and snarls to the actual Utah broadcast in-game.
You definitely worked hard on making all the sounds, no doubt about that. But, there is a very fine line between straight copying and being inspired by something and honestly I think you passed it. When anyone can hear that Utah call and immediately tell it's from JP, even non Isle players, that really speaks for itself.
In my eyes, it's like taking a real life photo and exactly drawing it again, just slight changes due to style differences. It might be done differently, but it's still the same picture and people will continue to recognize it as such and always draw comparisons.
IMO go a more creative and original route, if the JP calls are to be kept, then more distinction needs to be made. Perhaps adding in human screaming somehow, giving it more of a screech since these are dinosaurs/monster hybrids with human brains. Or make it more monstery sounding since again, the theme of the game is dinosaur/monster with humans, you don't have to be strict on making the dino calls sound realistic to the dino.
If it isn't changed, then just be prepared to always deal with people claiming you copied it, because the current sounds are just too similar to claim otherwise.
Appreciate your response though, it's nice to finally get some feedback on this topic.
So it's not a ripoff, just a branch with the same source. As long as they don't get legal issues it doesn't matter.
And if you ask me, the old Utah broadcast was much more unique, by a longshot. There was absolutely no need for Utah to be a JP Raptor 2. Model + broadcast just simply crosses the line of inspiration, and simply stands closer to copying imho.
Inspiration is called take X, and then change it significantly, so it's not X anymore. Utah's broadcast is not this. It just isn't. You could say, for example, that the old Utah call WAS indeed inspired by the JP raptor call, but it differed significantly enough to not be titled as a copy.

The new broadcast isn't nearly as impressive or even intimidating. I hear that sh*t and it's just annoying as hell. The old broadcast had a far better fear element. Those hissing snarls mixed with the cooing sound did far better wonders than JP call 2.0.
