The Isle

The Isle

Sound location
I've played a little of the Isle and whilst I enjoyed the idea of the game there was one thing that bugged me more than anything which was that when players are making their dinosaurs roar or chirrup or whatever you couldn't actually tell which direction the noise was coming from!

Would it be possible to implement a system whereby if you can hear a dinosaurs call then you could also tell which direction it was coming from?

Possibly by having the edge of the screen flash roughly in the direction of the noise.

You could also colour code the flashes, blue for same species, red for predator and green for herbivore for instance.

Also perhaps depending on differing species from your own the flash of colour could be less precise, roughly showing the direction of the caller but not accurately.

It would help with locating other dinosaurs and following your pack around, that's my thinking anyway. Half the time I managed to find people they only have to run off for 5 seconds and you can lose them!

What do you think?

Have you tried....surround sound?

Honestly I say this could be a neat toggleable graphics option for hard of hearing people, deaf people, etc who would still like to play the game, since sound plays a BIG role in surviving. However one suggestion is that it would only trigger for calls, depending on the type of call and how loud the call is, to avoid giving away say... People who are trying to flee.

F/chat call could be faint and only when you're within a certain radius, whereas broadcasts would be much more visible and vivid depending on the closer you are to the broadcast call. The same thing could also apply to merc gunfire, since there were a few instances where I couldn't tell where the shots were being fired from when they were able to get weapons.

I have to think that there's something wrong with the user's sound hardware when I see posts like this. There is very strong directionality to all of the dinosaur calls, to the point that they are louder when you focus your view towards them and get actively quietened when you are not looking their way.

locational sound is already in. move your camera around and judge where the sound is coming from that way. it'll be quieter if you're not facing the source of the noise. wearing headphones helps.

As Peridot said, it would be helpful to those who are hard of hearing, deaf, or just don't have the best sound setups like myself.
