Moon first or Orbital?
Greetings folks, I'm new to 2205 & so far I've been enjoying it.
But I was curious if you have to go to the Moon first? or can you wait with it till the Orbital sector opens up?
Might be a bit odd, but I like the idea of developing the Orbital sector first before the Moon, but was wondering if it was feasable.

Orbital is from dlc, so its not required for the "main" game

Cheers, guess I'll go orbital first & see if I can pull it off then. (have the DLC)

i believe you can make trading routes between earth and moon if you make it go through orbital station, but did not tried yet

I don't think it's odd. Orbital would be a step to the the moon.

Without spoiling too much, it is beneficial to get the orbital operational. Overhead costs are optional, not counting the astronaut training buildings, and the bonuses it provides are really good.

Moon first due to some items required for orbital station to work correctly are needed from the moon..

Thanks for this, just ran into this as well. Currently co-developing both the Moon & Orbital sector.
Also looks like I have to develop an additional Temperate sector to fund the Moonbase.

You dont need a Lunar sector to develop the Orbital.

Send astronauts from temperate, build a workshop, a support structure or two and get 10% global bonus to agriculture (per module btw). Build another workshop, and you can use rice instead of beef for Luxury Meals.

The goods for workshops are optional. They are used to boost the expertise output to increase the number of techs you can use. Many of which you will not want.

This makes all sectors cheaper, especially the second temperate you'll want to help finance lunar sector.

Wrong...the spacestation asked me originally for LUNAR FOOD. Guess where you can only grow that food? The moon...so my orbital spacestation was not gaining expertise until i actually made my lunar colony...so yea, in some instances, it is required on what your astronauts need.

Also, i tried giving them other food, but it did not work. They only wanted lunar food. Im guessing it is not like this for everyone, but if your lucky like i was, you need to make a big lunar city first.

@Thanter, im not saying your method is wrong, but it might not be in every instance. It did not work for me that way. Perhaps depending on which workshops you build affect what you need to give to your astronauts to get expertise?

Heh, think you guys are both right. My first module (bio) I built was happy with coral (from the artic zone) Second one (engineering) wanted Moon crops, so had to go to the moon to get it.
But seeing how expensive the moon is, I unlocked a Frontier zone (temperate) to get alot more population & so far it worked, I'm back on my pre-space (moon+Orbital) income

I'm saying you dont need to provide Lunar Lunches or any other item they ask for. You can get plenty of expertise with a few support modules and fully staffing the workshop with the right astro type.

I'm able to easily staff 6 workshops and get the expertise for 20% agriculture bonuses, use rice instead of beef for luxury meals, and 10% bonus to biotech buildings, plus some other bonuses I dont care about, but need to run timers for access to expanding the station.

All without sending a single item to the orbital. I'm sure later for the 4th and 5th tier techs I'll probably need to, but at 50 I could now with no sweat. But it won't do me any good to have more expertise until I can add more workshops.

They key is just to monkey around with the modules until you get the temps right and a full staff.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I can use more than that trying to communicate a point, so I threw together a quick guide on early station start up.

I started orbital before lunar just fine. The commodities are not mandatory for the whole thing to work. They are needed to fully maximize it on later moments tho
