D3D9 CreateDevice Failed
That message pops up whenever I try to start the game. I tried using windowed mode, setting the resolution with -w and -h from launch options, using -dxlevel 80, rebooting, updating drivers, and reinstalling. I've also tried finding the config file to change the ResX and ResY there, but the file doesn't exist (game folder in appdata does, but it's empty).

I'm using Windows 8.1. Can anyone help me?

do you know if other directx 9 games work on your computer? if you press windows key + R to get the run dialog and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and press enter, then change to the Display tab of the dialog that pops up, does it say Enabled beside Direct3D Acceleration?

Yes it does. Should it be disabled?

No that's right, it should be enabled. This is usually some kind of driver or configuration issue. Could you confirm that your graphics card drivers are up to date? Also, if no other games have ever installed it, it's possible you need the DirectX 9 end user runtime installed which you can get here:

I checked my graphics drivers again, they are up to date. I used the link you provided to download DirectX 9 just in case I didn't have it. The installer didn't say a reboot was needed but I did it anyway, I'm still getting that message. Is there anything else I could try?
