okay let see...
to develop a Zero player
you just need to put him in a general position that means, Goalkeeper, Defender, mid or Forward
Any position will do
they will develop a basic class eventually
then it comes the specialized or universal positions
thet means you know want to make that player keep playing on a specific position lets say DM
eventually he will develop that position BUT you will have to choose if you want THAT DM or just an universal MF
all classes work like that you choose a specific one or a Universal only once they already have their basic class
as for the sell part: the perfect time to sell them is when they reach 33 ages old
at 34 they will annouce their retirement and you will not able to renew or sell the player which is lost money
again check the guides section xD
hope it helps
Especialized classes can learn another 3 specific classes even a defender Can Become a Forward
It's totally fine to share your guide. I'll do it for you this time ;)

As far as positional progression: can amateur positionals be forced to another position through playing them at that position? In the case of a DM, do they have to start as amateur M or can they start amateur D?
Yet another shameless plug there :)
