Is there a time limit in the game?
Like when you have to finish it and then it's game over? Or does it go on indefinitively until you've reached certain goals?

Time limits that end the game are pretty bad. I am going to pass on this for now.

Strange. Do you avoid reading a novel because it has a last page? Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is an interactive novel. When you reach the end of the "book," it ends. Then you "read" it again in a different way, or you set it aside to come back to later. Unlike a paper novel, you'll find different things the next time you read/play.

I've never written a game without an ending. I do play some (Heroes of the Storm, for example), but they aren't story games. Of course, HotS does have an effective time limit; if you don't win in 20-30 minutes, the opponents will.

It's possible there's some misunderstanding about this "time limit" thing. Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption ends after 50 game days, but it might take you 10 hours or 100 hours to get there. Average seems to be about 25 hours, about four times as long as it took to play a Quest for Glory game. There's no time limit on game play, just an ending when you finish the story.

Game over when its done.
Yes there is a time limit and certain events/quests are only available at certain times. If you don't complete them it could mean a "bad ending" for you.
Time limit? :( I'm out.

There is a specific day when the game @ends@ and the day/night cycle forces you to bed at a certain time but after playing it twice I found that I had more than enough time to explore and get things done.

Same, i love challenging puzzles, rpg elements and anything else but i absolute hate time limits in games, that was already a curse at fallout1.

I was VERY interested in this game, having loved the Quest for Glory series all those years ago.

However, this time limit thing really has me wondering if this game is for me. I read a long review that said the time limit gets in the way of exploring, and you just don't have enough time to do everything you want to do.

So, my question is . . . does this time limit cause you to play in a rushed fashion? Do you really not have enough time to "read all the puns and descriptions" like the reviewer said? Can you actually miss out on completing things if you explore too much, or take too much time to do some quests, puzzles, etc?

I sure hope not. I really don't understand the whole time pressure thing in an adventure game. Adventure games are supposed to be played at your leisure, because puzzles may be difficult to figure out and some people need more time to solve them.

I look forward to hearing some feedback on this time limit in the game. I really hope it doesn't hinder the exploration aspect, and that we can still enjoy this game by taking our time.

Thanks!

Even my first time through the game it didn't take long to figure out how to play and see what I wanted within the time restraints. They're pretty generous. I only had one section that caused me to backload a few days because I had neglected one of my skills.

It's incredibly simliar to QFG 2: Trial by Fire in that respect.

I hate time limits. I mean, I really do. They stress me out.

That said... the QFG series had time limits, or rather, time sensitive events and day/night specific situations. Oddly enough, that didn't bother me all that much.

I haven't played Hero-U yet (I just got my GOG key today for being a Kickstarter backer), but if it's anything like QFG in that respect, it should definitely be manageable.

Every QfG, especially the one I played the most - the first one - had time, timed events, and time limits.

Thats like me complaining that I'm a fan of the Ultima series and then complaining that I am going to skip a new ultima game because it had virtues.

You know, brassi77, you're right. I was mistaken. I was thinking of the original King's Quest series. Not Quest for Glory. I remember them vaguely, but I don't think I really played them. And, if I did, I am too old and it was too long ago to remember the time limits.

So, my points still stand, with the exception of me loving the Quest for Glory series.

It's not time limits like arcade games...I hate those too. Essentially the game takes you through a certain number of days. Each day does have restrictions, but you have ample time to complete tasks once you get the hang of how each day goes. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can make you miss out on opportunities to complete some of the quests but it will not srop you from successfully finishing the game. The challenge then becomes trying again to see if you can get all the tasks done in a playthrough. That's where the fun of replay comes in. The more expert you become at managing your "life" skills the more you can accomplish. The game has a rich and complex world to explore.
I do find the time limit a bit annoying cause usually in a game like ethis i want to look at everything... LIke oh crap I cant' look at that painting i have to study up on lockpicking! I guess it is more "realistic" but a bit annoying.

I myself would like it to be like the Conquest of the Longbow or Gabriel Knight from the 1990s with days passing after doing events. LIke give the player as much time to look at things, and maybe allow them to say practice their skills 3 times a day, but a day doesn't pass until you do blah blah blah event or puzzle. I just feel rushed. :(
I must admin I found QFG 2&5 to be my least favourite in the series due to their time limits. Whereas 1,3&4 for the most part had no time limits so I could explore and hunt monsters as much as I wanted.

So the time limit in Hero-U is a concern for me. However I'm still very much looking forward to playing the game (I backed it twice so I already bought it). I hope the Coles consider maybe a couple of 'story break' moments in future games where you can do as much as you want until you decided to return to the main story with timed events.

There are several days during the game when you are free do to as you choose all day long except for supper and bedtime. The breaks allow you to kind of "catch up" on things as you need or want to. This last playthrough, I had finished all the quests about 5 days before endgame and my stats were nearly up to 100% on all skills, so it can be done.

One is chock full of time limits. More than 2. Did you play the real one or the claymation remake? I never played the remake so i don;t know if anything changed. If you weren't at A at X time you missed out. Time management a huge and integral part of the game.

I hate time limits too. I really, really hate them. I even hate day/night cycles that prevent me from using shops when i want, etc. The newer QfG-likes, like Quest for Infamy and Heroine's Quest also had time limits. If you are going to play a QfG-like game its something you have to accept.

I also hate the fact I cannot rename the character. Or that he has dialogue and not vague responses I can fill in in my mind with dialogue my character would say. Shawn isn't my character like all the characters in every QfG game was. In that regard, they picked up that crap from the two newer QfG-likes.

I think my complaint is valid since it 100% wasn't in the original QfG, where time was, especially in the first one. Time being a bigger factor, and way, way more time limits on things and not so much be x at y time, is certainly a valid complaint though. And I agree with it. But not revising history.

But, some things have definitely changed for the better. The rpg system is improved. Combat is improved, etc.
