I would imagine the answer is money. Microids only have so much money to work with and David Suchet was probably out of their price range.

David Suchet said that once he finished the 13 seasons of Poirot that he was going to stop doing Poirot shows/films - I think he also stopped doing the audiobooks as he used to read those. They are even re-making the Orient express soon which will star a new Poirot - even though Dave is the most popular, there has been about 3/4 that have played him in TV shows and films

Suchet would have been great, but the guy they got did a servicable job. The one I wish they had gone for was Japp; the voice actor they got to play him was a little stilted. The actor from the series would have been nice to see.

My fav was "Murder on the Orient Express (1974)" with Albert Finney - for me David Suche was a good second.

Suchet did do the "Murder on the Orient Express" game. However, the way he talks about Poirot, Suchet considered the Belgian Detective more of a friend than a character, and so doing Poirot again after his death in the series just wouldn't feel right.
