Game wont launch on Linux [Solved]
Recently built a new PC and decided on ZorinOS (Linux) as my new OS (I'm completely new to Linux).

When I try to launch the game I get a black square on screen and then 5 seconds later it closes and the play button on steam turns green again.

I've tried launching the game using each version of proton steam provides with same results each time.

I don't know what causes it and don't know what (if any) is wrong with my system (still in progress of learning Linux). any help would be appreciated.

PC Specs:
Motherboard: ROG Strix B550-A
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3080
RAM: 16 GB (2x8)
Storage: 2 TB M.2 Gen 4
PSU: ROG Strix 850W
Monitor Res: 3440x1440 @165Hz

Well, Linux is not an officially supported OS for Souls games to begin with. So good luck messing around with Proton and other emulators in Steam. Try googling too. If nothing works, then there's no dice for you.

The thing is though ds3 is rated platinum on ProtonDB (that means its very well compatible), and googling gives me pretty much no results...

I just looked protondb. It seems that good results are yielded with Steam Deck. No other system is specified.

Also, make sure you have proprietary GPU drivers.

no mods installed. ill try and see if maybe my drivers arent up to date but pretty sure they are

I've been using Mint for years and never had issues with ds3 not launching.

Update your drivers from the ubuntu ppa.

What you can also try for some games is use glorious eggroll proton.

Edit: Most distros based on ubutu install nouveau driver for nvidia cards which isnt bad but no good for gaming. Load above ppa then use software center or the proprietary driver app to install the nvidia driver.

time to spend another 200+ hours in ds3
