You should make a hard cap for high damage and give a ring and dex (sage ring) for faster casting. Also, when you make more hard mana cap and drink it, all your mana should be filled. Also, you should not always rely on magic and make a low-req crystal or magic weapon.

The trick is to find a melee weapon that scales with int or faith. For instance, I usually play a faith build, so I like to infuse a partizan with lightning element. I basically am able to fight like normal, while also casting healing and lightning spells when the situation calls for it.

People who do full spell casting with no melee are built different. Couldn't be me.

You can make some pretty nice melee casters build for int and pyromancer builds. One example is demon scar + black flame and fire surge which is arguably one of the strongest duel build in this game, but there are some other nice builds, for instance the famous Heysel pick build from Adam Barker.

For faith in my opinion you are more limited, but lately I have been playing with a blessed build with nice results. However you need to already be very experienced in this game to play this kind of build.

If Im not pumping points in to Str or Dex i usually infuse a low-requirement-weapon with Raw or Fire for early game, just to get myself far enough in to the game to infuse with something that will scale with my stats.
