They stuffed the ENTIRE room with furniture, people complained left and right about it and it had other balance issues.
It doesnt allow pvp or multiplayer and you should definitely play offline otherwise you risk a ban.
Yes it changes the story significantly and makes the game much harder. I would definitely finish the base game first.
It does technically allow multiplayer, but it will get you and your friends banned if you play online. What that means is you'll only be able to play with other "banned" players. So If you like doing invalding/summoning pvp or pve with strangers, then don't do it.
It's usually recommended that you complete the vanilla experience first since it is in itself a great experience and it will give you a greater appreciation and understanding of the new content that is added. But this is obviously a subjective opinion and there is a chance you could go right into the mod and still have a lot of fun. So it's really up to you.
