Is Online Safe Nowadays?

I remember 2 years ago there was this situation with cheaters being able to directly run things on your computer through an exploit. The devs deactivated online features, and brought them back some time later, im guessing with those exploits fixed.

Today I went to the Blue Sentinel Mod's page, and they said that as of now, all those dangerous exploits were patched and this mod is not a necessity, but a quality of life for online play.

I decided to play this game again, and I'm not planning to heavily do online play. So I should be fine without any modifications to the game?

cheaters can't do anything except killing you or crashing your game. blue sentinel doesn't help against these things.
