is there any reason to go for dark gem over deep gem/chaos gem over fire gem?

i'm looking at the ar's for a longsword on the wiki and it seems like deep gems do more total damage. am i understanding it wrong?

deep and fire infusions completely negate scaling while increasing base damage. Fire and deep are only good at low levels where you'd have close to no stats, dark/chaos with 30 int and 30 faith has extremely good damage.

ah thx, i assume the wiki doesnt take stats into account.
