I haven’t installed any mods for Dark Souls 3 yet but I was wondering do I have to launch the game in offline like Elden Ring to play mods?

Yes. It's the same for every Dark Souls.

Depends on the mod. Most mods should be safe but don't risk it, unless the mod page specifies whether it will ban you online.

safe mods for online: Textures, character models, weapon models, lighting mod aka graphics mods such as Champion Ashes Lighting mod or hollow lighting mod, sounds mod yes there's music mod and sound effect mod, HUD Mod example you want a PS4 Icons yes you can install it or maybe keyboard mouse icons yes! Ragdoll mod is safe too

mods that is not safe online: custom maps, weapon mods, or even entire shebang like convergence mod or cinder mod, edited maps layout, edited story/quest scripts, and even changing enemy placement is INSTA BAN. avoid mods like convergence or cinder for online,

if you want to play cinder or convergence type mods online i recommend play it using DS3 Open Server Mod.

On the subject of mods, last I checked a small update had borked a lot of them. How's that situation looking? Was thinking about reinstalling for a modded run.

All the mods i used said to disable online mode, just playing it safe .

I don't have experience with UXM that doesn't mean i have no modding experience at all.

Also i didn't get to that part, op didn't ask to play online with mods. Only if it was necessary to play offline not to get banned, which is the case with 99% of gameplay changing mods.

If you have to use a private server to play the mod online, then that very mod needs the game to be offline to be played in single player or else you get banned.

that’s what i thought cuz i know of some mods like blue sentinels and the one that allows you to invade everywhere in game with red eye orb but i didn’t know if those could be used while still online

Blue Sentinels mod doesn't affect code or the anti cheat so it's safe.

Wex Dust works the same way. (You need to own the dlc or else you will be banned for invading unowned dlc areas)

The descriptions for those mods say they are ok for online.

There are dll mods that aren't safe like First Person Souls, make sure to read the FAQ "Can i play online" is usually the first question.
