How does this change the weapon? Do you mean equip it in my left hand then dual wield it?
Won't that lower the damage because its left hand?
Other good stength weapons that can be found early-game are Claymore (High Wall), Exile Greatsword (Upper Swamp) or Greatsword (lower swamp).
Buffable and infusable per your liking. Fun to mess around with.
They are literally an upgrade to straight swords - same movesets of wide swings, only they hit harder and further, while not consuming the entire screenspace.
The only downside is that they are somewhat slower, leaving you open for counter attacks for longer, but it can be worked around.
You can buy Bastard Sword from Greirat, it's like a training Greatsword: shorter and lighter than its siblings, but consumes less stamina too while hits just as hard. It can also be heavy infused and just StrengthMaxed.
Other option is the Swiss knife of Dark Souls - Claymore. You can find it on Lothric Walls, it can be found on section of wall that keeps getting burned down by that one dragon sitting on a tower.
You can buy a bow, 100 arrows and keep shooting the guy until he leaves. After that claymore is yours - it is the single most versatile weapon in the entire game.
3rd option is to defeat rotten great wood in Undead Settlement and transpose its soul into a Hollowslayer Greatsword.
Basically Claymore 2.0, only for DEX users, with unique two handed moveset and bonus damage (+15%?) against hollow.
Hint: there's a lot of hollows in this game. Like half the enemies are hollows.
Claymore really is an I win button.
Its an early game weapon with low req's.
Its low weight so low stamina.
Does crazy damage with heavy infuse.
Fantastic reach.
Good Speed.
Long poke.
Fantastic cone that hits things it shouldn't.
A bit on the heavier side, but effective. Works with Heavy Infusion, and has the R1 > WA > R1 combo against player-like entities, great for stacking poison.
The only problem with that is getting it to drop in the first place lol
Well, 2 out of 3 best greathammers in the game are farmables from Undead settlement, really makes you think eh
